I think Ford can find a problem now!

I owned a Corvette with Positraction. Posi started behaving badly (growling on corners) following an expensive lube and oil at the local Chevy dealers. After reading up on Posi, I realized some dufus could have used standard hypoid axle grease with no modifier. I took the car back to Chevy...

Anyone know of a kit from chrome-ing parts

$95 seems very low if they filled pits and plated them. When looking for this on my '65, the cost was closer to $500 per frame. I was patient and eventually they became an aftermarket item. I bought the pair I had for $285 from California Mustang. It took them six months to deliver them...

    Newbie with power..

If you hear detonation pinging or hesitations then let off the throttle. Then find out why you can't go to full throttle w/o ping/hesitation. If properly tuned for the gas octane then this won't happen.

Question for the people in Austin, TX

What kind of double talk is that? just like a new car but not show quality? New cars have show quality paint, they're simply not buffed to a high shine. Have you seen a new high dollar car with a shabby paint job? In the higher prices the manufacturers can spend more labor and hence the car...

    Auto to Manual

You've received some good replies already so will bypass what already been said. Here's some added info: a. Clutch linkage. Beginning at the pedal there is a pushrod and cotter or circlip. The rod passes through the firewall where there is a gasket/bracket assembly. On the engine side is...

Question for the people in Austin, TX

Get it out of your mind there's good paint jobs for less than $2K. Good paint and materials alone cost the shop $500. Thats if you want run of the mill two or three-part paint (base coat/clear coat). If you want something more exotic like Dupont Chromillusion, then $500 isn't enough. There...

Give you the duct tape! The other image is the reflection of a marker light on the car parked next to the car being photographed. Car with marker light is out of viewing angle of the camera lens. Jeff

How does detonation occur? In a simple sense the fuel simply explodes instead of burning in a controlled manner. How does it happen? If compression is excessively high, the fuel/air mixture will be compressed to the point it explodes (diesels). Since the piston might not be where its...

    Few Problems with New Motor

I would get the tranny fixed and recheck the engine temperature problem. Temperature problem may go away once the tranny is working smoothly.

    Harmonic Balencer Question?

If it comes apart it can do a lot of damage! Imagine the radiator, water pump, timing cover exploding from the impact of shrapnel. A $100 repair will become a nightmare! Either replace the harmonic or get it rebuilt by a knowledgeable rebuilder.

    Synthetics...

I had a lot of trouble with rear axle grease seeping past seals when using Royal Purple. I got rid of it, used common hypoid axle oil (Shell), and had no problems afterward.

    Window drip rail came off!!!

Here's how I did mine. Need two people. Second person simply holds the molding in position while you snap it on. Just snaps on, you know? I took a 8" long 2x4 and covered it in several layers of soft cloth. I wrapped it tightly on the 2x4 and then stapled the cloth. Use the unstapled side...

Auto to Manual...Can it be done? Is it Worth it?

I suppose it depends on what you do with your car. With a 'vert there's no advantages either. Trade it in on a coupe with the manual tranny you want. Your difference cost is likely to be small if the cars are in equal condition and mileage. You need to be lighter as well as have more hp at...

    Tire Question

B.F. Goodrich GForce KDW's are likely the best with high performance dry weather tread. GForce KDWS is a better all weather tire but has a more traditional tread pattern (not as cool looking). These are great all around performance tires for the street (i.e., wear, dry traction, rain, snow and...

    Weird engine problem.

Its called "surging" and it happens when the fuel/air mixture is really screwed up. What happens is the engine ingests a rich mixture then coughs on it (pauses), the computer tells it to lean out the mixture and so it does (revs), this cycle repeats. Also happens in carbed cars when the...

What octane to run on 4.6 GT Anyway?

Let's see! 18,000 miles a year / 18 mpg fuel mileage = 1000 gallons per year. 1000 g/y * $0.10 per gallon difference in prices for 91 = $100. In addition you got worse gas mileage since lower octane fuel burns more efficiently...Okay, you just burned up $100 for nothing! And you're doing...

    Help from Show Veterans

Trick to installing Vent Window Extensions on 66?

The special tool is the only safe way. You could make a jig and use a hammer but the risk is to the vent window frames. Since they're pot metal, they won't stand much shock at the tip where you need to put the rivet. I did the following: a. drilled the old rivet and removed the ancient tip...

    89 5.0?

Use an aftermarket distributor for the 5.0L HO if you have roller cam engine. Mallory comes with steel gear already installed and so you avoid the expense of machine work to replace it. Mallory 2770401 is dual points model, 4770401 is the Unilite Electronic model. I know these, had one in my...
