    not taking either side of this debate, but about 4 years ago hot rod mag did a group of runs with some instraments and some engineers and they found that a lockup rearend only added the equvilent of 12% more traction than that of an identical open rear

    rim diameter/tire width has 0 to do with gear ratio. it is all about total tire height which if done properly will be nearly identical go with wider tires and gears, throw in a powertrax later on when you are ready. powertrax does not require you to re index the gears

    well, they leak horribly an gear old and breaks do not get along well most of the guys 'round these parts are welding 9" ends on their 8.8s pressing a bearing and living the good life
