    Weird timing issues

+1 on checking the firing order. What cam are you using in this engine? What is your current firing order? There are 2 firing orders for small blocks depending on the cam you are running. This would explain not being able to rev it and no powere in addition to backfire etc...

Restarting the 302 - Should It Sound Like This?

I agree that you should focus on looking for exhaust leaks. If you don't have a good seal, the engine will be very noisy, almost like noisy rockers. Check at the heads and the flange that connects to your H pipe. The other thing that comes to mind since this is an engine that has been sitting...

JMC hydraulic clutch and Power brakes.?

You will be fine with that booster, I am using the same booster with the JMC setup. Here's a few pics: Note the hydraulic MC next to the brake booster. You will be very happy with the hydraulic clutch setup. Great feel and tons of room for whatever headers you want to run with.

Has anyone here rebuilt a steering box?

Spend some time on http://www.stangerssite.com/ as well. You might decide to just send it to him to rebuild it. He has a good reputation for quality work and prices are very reasonable.

    Loss of Steering

If you are not concerned with concours restoration for this car, you should look into the new Borgeson integral power steering box. It repplaces the stock steering box and allows you to do without the ram and control valve. Much cleaner and less likely to leak. Does not work with the stock...

Build Log - 1966 Mustang Coupe

That's a very ambitious project you have there, congrats on being different! Would be interested to see more pics and description on how you fit the dash, door panels and rear seat/interior panels. I'm sure that stuff didn't just happen to fit ;-)

    It's Alive

Congrats on hitting this milestone. Sweet looking ride, enjoy putting some miles on it. Regarding what rear gears behind a T5z, I'm running 3.80's with 15" wheels and the gearing is perfect for cruising and aggressive around town driving, while the overdrive is great on the highway. I don't...

Have no idea why car won't run right

Yup, could definately be not getting the full 12 volts, which would result in weak spark... How did you wire it? What is the switched 12 volt source you are using? Also, I think I recall reading the HEI systems require a certain type of spark plug wire (solid core versus spiral wound or...

Have no idea why car won't run right

If it was just a vaccum leak, the car should at least start and run, albeit poorly. My next suggestion is to pull the plugs for a reading. If they are fouled, then it is more reason to suspect the carb. When you swapped to the HEI ignition, did you regap the plugs and if so, to what gap...

Right Fuel Pressure for 65 Fastback?

Yup, you are right, my bad. Doesn't explain why he would have blue smoke after replacing the fuel pump, so likely looking at 2 distinct problems. Set the pressure to 7 psi and check float levels and let us know where things are at.

Have no idea why car won't run right

Couple of thoughts: 1)Please tell us what your firing order is and what cam you are running if you know. 2)I would check the float level on the carb to make sure you are getting sufficient fuel and or not too much fuel.

Have no idea why car won't run right

This sounds like the symptoms of a vaccum leak, although not too sure about why it would run ok for 15 minutes. Perhaps with the choke still on, it would over compensate and appear to run ok until the choke came off. Get some carb cleaner and with the engine running, spray it around the base...

Right Fuel Pressure for 65 Fastback?

You want the fuel pressure to be right around 7 psi for carb applications. Set your fuel pressure regulator accordingly and I would also suggest checking the float levels in your carb. the reason for the blue smoke is likely because you had too much fuel pressure causing a flooding situation.

    opinions with tranny/gear ratio

The T5z is much stronger than the standard issue T5 and has been holding up fine behind my 347 which is rated fro ~405 fwhp and 420 ft lbs. I swapped my 8" rear for a new 4 pinion traction loc with 3.80 gears and I absolutely love the gearing. It is really perfect for around town driving, both...

Steering Ram drop Bracket pulled out of Frame

Looks like a nice piece, but extremely overpriced. The generic brackets sell for a mere $10, I can't see the value add for another $110 for this one. Just weld on the generic and be done with it. If you need to go back to stock some day, grind the welds and remove it.

    Need checklist for lazy engine

If timing is set properly, I would take it for a good 5-10 mile drive and then pull the plugs and see what they tell you. Could be running lean/rich and require some carb adjustments. I would also look for any vaccum leaks, which will also affect performance.

    Lug nuts keep coming loose

The lug nuts on my left rear tire have come loose twice now and I don't know why. I have tourque Thrust D wheels by American Racing and am using the acorn style lug nuts. The last time it happened, I made sure to tourque the lugs down pretty damn tight. This doesn't happen on any of the other...

Mustang Expert in the Boston area

A couple of things come to mind: 1)Are you positive both leaf springs are of the same weight rating? Suppliers screw up all the time and could have mistakenly given you 1 for a big block and one for a 6 cyl. 2)With the car on the ground, measure from the floor to the spring mount locations on...

Steering Ram drop Bracket pulled out of Frame

I had the same problem and frankly think they should just state in the directions for the drop bracket to have the bracket welded on instead of using the original bolts. I tightened the remaining 2 bolts to get the bracket aligned and had my muffler shop weld the bracket on. It is now rock...
