AFR 185 heads - what is this hole for?

Thanks for confirmation. I did see thermactor plugs listed on AFR's website and agree, it looks like they are already screwed in there. I'll check tomorrow, hopefully it has just gotten loose. I will apply red loctite and tighten that puppy down and hopefully ALL my problems will be solved...

AFR 185 heads - what is this hole for?

I was attempting to isolate a ticking sound that I have been assuming was noisy rockers. I wanted to be sure I didn't have an exhaust leak before getting into adjusting my rockers for nothing, so with the engine running, I put my hand down around the headers to feel if there was any air...

Noisy Hydraulic Lifters - Any Fix Ideas ?

Thanks for all the input guys. I found the write up on SBF.com and is well written for sure, great pics etc, but also the same procedure I have used from the Comp Cams site. I will see if I can find time today to go through the adjustment process again, this time I will: Run the engine up to...

Noisy Hydraulic Lifters - Any Fix Ideas ?

I agree, this is probably the best way to do it, but I am not willing to have oil spew all over everything and make a mess of my engine bay. That said, I have read that some have cut the tops off old set of valve covers, leaving enough room to make adjustments. Does this prevent oil from...

Noisy Hydraulic Lifters - Any Fix Ideas ?

Using roller lifters. I have adjusted them twice following detailed instructions from Comp Cams website. The only thing I was thinking about recently was that I did not run the engine prior to adjusting, so it is possible the lifters were not pumped up when I adjusted them. Engine would have...

What oil weight should I be using and why?

Thanks for the resonses guys. Dhearne - I have read posts where you suggest this is normal, but I'm not sure the racket mine are making is considered normal. I will have to see if I can get a short video of it posted for you guys to listen to. Hope it translates well. JonK - I will post...

What oil weight should I be using and why?

    Master cylinder

I know your friend told you the booster was working, but there is a simple test to be sure. With the car turned off, apply pressure to the brake pedal - this should feel very stiff and not give much if any movement. Start the car and you should feel the pedal travel some amount. I had the...

What oil weight should I be using and why?

I plan to call CHP again next week to talk with them about it, but wanted to get a little more educated first. Zookeeper - why did you select the 20w50 in the first place? I live in MA, but I don't drive my car beyond October, so doesn't see any real cold weather.

What oil weight should I be using and why?

I have a 347 from CHP with hydraulic roller cam & valvetrain, 8 qt oil pan, high volume oil pump. CHP suggested I run 20w50, which I did for a while, but when I changed my oil I decided to go with Mobil 1 10w30 synthetic based on input from knowledgable people etc. Using the 10w30, I have very...

Noisy Hydraulic Lifters - Any Fix Ideas ?

KiwiGT - do you have any updates on this issue? I too have very noisy rocker arms (hydraulic roller, 1.6 ratio arms) despite multiple adjustments. Just wonderring if you were able to pinpoint a problem and how you resolved it?

ABS Power Brake intergrated power steering box.

Borgeson just announced their new integrated PS steering box on this forum a few days ago (link was moved). The MSRP of their product is $549, but dealers may be selling it cheaper. If you can find the thread, it has some good Q&A, one of which was about wether or not they used the older...

New COBRA seat Install w/ Pics

I like the style if the seats for classic Stangs and like how you kept the brakets simple. I'm curious about the material fit on the seats, looks like it's fairly loose. Did they come new like that?

    289 misfiring under acceleration

+1 on checking the firing order. If 2 wires are wrong, it will seem to idle and run ok in park, but under load it is obvious there is a problem.

is it worth the time to build up a 8 inch rearend?

500 HP out of a 331 is asking alot unless you are planning for some NOS or forced induction. My 8" (4 pinion traction lock unit) is holding up fine behind my 347 which is rated for 405hp and 420 ft lbs at the crank. If 500 is a very real number, then like the others have said, just go with the...

    Chrome Trim

Yes, they are stainless. What kind of condition are your drip rails in? You can remove them and polish & buff them to get them to look new again. I'm sure there are also shops out there you could send the pieces to to have them do it as well, just don't know of any first hand.

Need opinions, what do you think my car is worth?

Very nice looking tribute car. Tough to pin a real value on it these days with current economic conditions certainly having an impact on car values. I follow a lot of the Mecum auctions and ebay sales and my guesstimate would be $22-25k if the car is as nice in person as it is in the pics...

    Looking for a 347

I got my 347 long block from CHP and have been very happy so far. It's a 9.5:1 compression, AFR 185 heads, don't recall the cam specs but is all roller valvetrain. I am running Air Gap intake, Holley SA 670, Hooker Comp headers and am very pleased with the performance. I haven't had it dynoed...
