    Have you tried putting your ear to a long screwdriver on the accessories while the knock is present? Might help pinpoint it. (don't try this on the balancer though :) )

    What Radar Dectector are you guys using?

    I used to have one of those remote ones in my '93 Wrangler before it (the Wrangler) was stolen. Worked great, and nothing on the dash to see. I would just open the ashtray and shut it off if I got pulled over. I asked my insurance agent if I could claim the detector as a loss, he just laughed at me.

    I would think that the cost of using that much acetone would defeat the money saved by getting better gas mileage, not to mention possible damage to hoses, etc.

    I had this happen once in another car. Unburned fuel built up in the exhaust, and ignited with a loud bang. Made my oval muffler more round. I can see it pushing a joint apart, either in a muffler or at the clamps.

    I would say it's because you're not letting the synchros do their thing. Like trying to put a square peg in a round hole, the shift forks don't like that.

    Gas Mileage

    I drove from Fort Wayne, Indiana to Manchester, NH last year. The best I got was 29.6 mpg, driving 67 mph with cruise control on through Ohio. Never went below 26 mpg as long as I kept my speed down. But in the city I get about 13 mpg.
