Rearend w/posi upgrade - need advice

If you plan on making serious power (above 350 hp) and running slicks or drag radials then you MIGHT break 28 spline axies. Otherwise I would not worry about it. I would go with a 3.50 ratio. If you know a good rear end builder then have him build you one using your existing pumpkin...

    detune an engine?

If you try putting a mild cam in a motor in which all other components are set up for a big cam (big carb, single plane intake, free flowing heads) you are liable to make a complete dog that will not get out of its own way. As long as you don't "shock" the drivetrain by putting on slicks or...

    What size stall?

I've got a 2800 stall in my 73 vert (351C-4V). Replaced the 2100 stall that was in there. Does take a little getting used to as it slips more when accelerating. However, for a motor that is sluggish on the bottom end (like a 4V Cleveland) it is great. You just have to watch out for...

    Renting a car hoist???????

When I dropped my T5 I put both the front and rear wheels on ramps. That gave me enough clearance and obviously the car could not fall on me.

    65 289 A-code (Cam and Valvetrain) Questions

I realize that this does not answer your question but the best "invisible" performance improvement is changing the rear gears. Going from a 2.79 to a 3.25 or 3.55 rear gear will make a big difference. If money is no object then stroke the short block to a 347 and use aluminum heads (painted...

What is your opinion? 3.80 or 4.10 8" rear

Depends on the motor. If it really likes to rev and makes most of its power above 3000 rpm then I would go with 4.11. If it is done at 5500 then go with the 3.75. My 347 revs freely to 6500 and I have had both 3.89 and 4.11 gears in it. Personally I did not consider the 4.11 to be too much...

    windshield install time!

DO NOT use the "window weld" silicone stuff. Use 3M bedding/glazing compound. Very messy but it never gets hard and will not "glue" the windshield in. Use LOTS and LOTS of it or you will be pulling the glass back out and doing it again. Ask me how I know. You MUST use a sealer. There...

    NPD Boss 429 hood scoop

You should see the $125 68.5 Mustang scoop that Branda sells. Pretty poor quality. I bought a much better repro from thefordshow on ebay. Had to pay $300 for it but well worth it.

Project Outsourcing Tips and Lessons Learned

I've had two Mustangs painted in the last 20 years. I doubt that I will ever have another one done. Took me four years to get my Shelby painted. I put it in one shop (one with LOTS of references and I got to see his work) with $1500 up front. 6 months later it became obvious that nothing...

Please describe the behavior of a locking differential

There's also the possibility that you bought a rear with the "50 cent locker" which consists of taking an open rear end and shimming the spider gears to force both wheels to turn at the same time. Problem is that this puts a lot of unnatural stress on the rear and things break or at least...

    Sealing Differential

The copper washers are used to seal around the studs. Because the studs project into the housing it is possible for them to leak even when using a gasket and/or silicone.

What would cause engine break-up at 5200 RPM?

Could be the coil or just a loose connection on the coil.

    Transmission Kickdown Cable

IIRC the 1970 Mustangs used a kickdown rod attached to the carb, not the cable attached to the accelerator assembly. The rods are kind of hard to find. Much better to get a Lokar cable kickdown setup. Very easy to install and easy to adjust.

72 mustang 4 speed header issues

Ford never put a 351W in a 72. All the 351 were Clevelands. And the 71-73 engine compartment was different than the 67-70 so there is no guarantee that headers for those cars will work. You might be SOL. FPA can help you if anybody can.

    Quck tire question

They will not handle as well as radials. They will ride rougher than radials. They will wander all over the road, following every expansion joint. You will hate them. They are old technology and IMO belong only on show cars.

    Wet Carpet Problem

When the padding gets wet it holds water like a sponge. You MUST lift the padding up so that air can get underneath it. Even then expect a couple of days for it to air dry. When I had a leaky cowl I would use indoor/outdoor carpet as padding. When it got wet I would just hang it up on the...

    68 DSO code and option

The 910232 DSO code indicates a special order car. Most special orders were for a non-Mustang paint color. The DSO indicates that this was the 232nd special order car for DSO 91 (91-0232). The touch up paint reference on the Marti report probably indicates that this car was special...

Dumb question: need a wire thats hot when ignition is 'hot' only

There is a threaded terminal on the back of the ignition switch that is hot when the key is on. As for the wire for the light: I did the lazy thing and wired it to the same terminal. The light is on when the key is on.

Seat Pan Relocaton - Anybody done this?

If you just want to relocate the seat rearward I have a Word document that shows you how to make a set of adapters that bolt between the factory tracks and the seat. No welding required, about $25 worth of parts. Seat still moves fore-and-aft. Moves the seat back 2.5 inches. Email me at...
