    1965 mustang gears..question

Handle is not a bolt on swap. T5 shifter rods are internal so the 4-speed linkage will not work. I bought a T5Z and replaced the delivered shifter with a Tri-Ax. Then I installed the 65-67 "stock appearing" shifter handle with a 1969 Mustang shifter boot. Looks stock, shifts great.

    Carb tuning

Look for a vacuum leak. Dial in some more initial timing - that will let you close the carb butterflies some more and get back on the idle circuits. Unplug the vacuum advance when setting the timing.

clutch pedal bushings – disassembling tips?

Pull the support. Send it to Mustang Steve. He will rollerize it for $100. The plastic bushings are a waste of time.

    68 289 Exhaust manifold leak

I had the same problem. I got a new set of gaskets and test fit them on the manifolds and the heads separately. I had to open up some of the gasket bolt holes to get it in the right place. I marked an outline of the manifold on the gasket with a Sharpie. Then I glued the gasket in the proper...

    1965 mustang gears..question

I have a .62 OD with 3.89 rear gears. 2200 rpm at 70 mph. Going to a 5-speed was one of the best things I ever did.

Have the battery cable unhooked before you do it.

    1970 Mustang Transmission Swap

Contact Broader Performance. They will set you up with a new tranny and custom converter for less than $2K. No core required. I just bought a 500hp rated C6 from them for my FE motor. With custom converter, shift kit and low gear kit it was only $2200. These guys know their stiff.

Planning stages for a '69 Fastback

If you want cheap big block power then you should go with a 429/460 "385" series motor (NOT a Boss 429). They will bolt right in with the right set of headers. Drawback is that they are very heavy but even unstroked you can make LOTS of power. If you just HAVE to have an FE (427,428) motor...

4 Speed Toploader Conversion Parts List

If you don't have anything I recommend that you put in a T5 instead. You will really appreciate the OD and the lower first gear. Modern Driveline has a complete list of parts on their website. I'll bet it doesn't cost any more than the toploader setup. Rebuilding a toploader is not cheap...

    Need help...starting problem

You have a bad battery cable or the cable is poorly grounded. Even though it looks OK they can corrode under the insulation. Spring $20 for a new set of battery cables and try again.

Pump gas in a 399 stroker?????

The cheapest way to go is to put in a bigger cam. The increased overlap will bleed off cylinder pressure and MIGHT allow you to run pump gas. You also might have to run a lot less timing. Downside to the bigger cam is reduced idle quality and low end response.

Can a dash pad be painted with success?

You don't need a spray gun... the SEMs products come in a spray can and work very well. I did all the soft pieces in my 68 so that they would be the same shade of red. The SEMs products are a three part system - cleaner, prep, color. Follow the directions on each can. Spray the color coat...

    Dual Exhaust

Dynomax Ultraflow are the quietest of the turbo mufflers. You are going to have to go custom with the intermediate pipes because of the reinforcement plate. You need to find a really good muffler shop to fabricate them so that they do not hit the body and do not have any really constrictive...

    Resto Mod Question

First off no matter what you do to get more power you are going to have to upgrade the suspension and the rest of the drivetrain. If you plan on 300 hp and sticky tires then you had better go to a 9" rear. Everybody else is coming up with fairly exotic solutions to your problem. I prefer...

    make a console pad?

IIRC 68 Cougar pads were padded all the way across - they did not have the "pebbled" metal insert like the Mustangs.

    Rear Gear

Another more expensive option is to have a low gear kit put into the C6. It lowers first gear by 10% and 2nd gear by 5%. This effective turns 3.25 rear gears into 3.58 gears in first and still gives you 1:1 in 3rd gear. Also, you really should consider a 2500 stall converter for that 351C...

    Aluminum vs Copper Radiators

I live in Houston. I have a 347 in my 67 GT350. I'm running the stock looking 3-row 20" radiator. Had to use a shorter fan spacer as the radiator is thicker. Factory shroud. 6-blade (fixed blades) aluminum fan made by Flex-a-lite (rated to 8000 rpm, $30 from Summit). That fan moves a LOT...

    shock absorber selection

+1. The difference is dramatic. I had KYBs on my 67 GT350. 520 coils lowered an inch, 5 leaf springs in the rear. Ride was VERY stiff. It was fatiguing to drive on the highway as any road dip would snap your head around. Changed to the Konis (set them pretty soft) and there was no...

Car dies after 25-30 minutes of use. Help needed.

If it shuts off suddenly (like flipping a switch) then I suspect an ignition problem. Something is heating up and breaking the circuit. Try hotwiring the coil directly from the battery. That will tell you if it is the ignition switch or a voltage problem. Then replace the magnetic sleeve...
