    68 428 SHAKER COUPE

If you pull back the fenders and the fifth digit in the VIN is blank don't be dismayed. Some of the 68 428CJ cars had a blank where the "R" is supposed to be. Mine does.

Ride height questions- Reverse eyes, oh my

You do NOT want poly shackle bushings. They squeak no matter what you do. Use rubber or the ($$$) Del-a-lums. If you are going to run the car at the strip then I recommend 4.5 or 5 leaf rear springs. They resist wheel hop much better than the 4 leaf springs do. Won't hurt your handling...

    throttle spring help

Check the NPD catalog for part # 9741 (throttle return spring bracket). Most of them are designed to mount under the driver's rear carb stud nut.

How to mount an Edelbrock Cable Plate Kit?

OK, I see you have a 69-73 Mustang with an accelerator cable and auto kickdown rod. I know you don't want to hear this but the Edelbrock adapter sucks. It is basically an add-on part that changes all your accelerator linkage geometry and causes the kickdown rod to interfere with the bottom...

    opinion on engine mods

For internally stock (heads/cam) 289s I recommend a carb around 500 cfm. It is plenty of carb up to 5500 and the stock heads/cam give up long before that - even with headers and a free flowing exhaust. The only carbs in this size are the Edelbrock and the Autolite 4100. I left out the 4300...

    Aftermarket T5 shifters in classics

Get a Pro 5.0 or a Steeda Tri-Ax. You may have to notch the leading edge of the shifter hole in the tranny tunnel. Get a Hurst handle or do what I did - get the "stock looking" T5 handle. About $100 from NPD. It is bent WAY back towards the driver - just like the originals

    two exhaust questions

Sorry, but this info is incorrect. When running HiPo exhaust manifolds a special Z bar was used. A stock Z bar will hit the HiPo manifolds. I don't know if the special Z bar is being repopped or not. I have heard conflicting info.

    C6 Kickdown

The Lokar kit is the way to go. It has everything you need including the lever on the tranny. Be sure to also get the mounting bracket for the cable onto the carb. They sell it separately and you need it.

    Can't stop it....

The reason it is happening is because your current engine either has: (1) a massive vacuum leak, or (2) a much bigger cam than the previous engine. You can fix (1) pretty easy. Fixing (2) requires replacing the cam with something with less overlap. Or get a vacuum reservoir. Or a vacuum...

    what is concourse correct?

"Correct" concours parts, paint marks and the color of the underneath primer all vary from plant to plant (San Jose, Dearborn, New Jersey). There is not any single one "correct" way to do any specific car. On top of that at any given show the person judging your car may have his own notion...

67 Fastback Parts Pricing - Help please

You are going to make a LOT more money by selling it one piece at a time on ebay. Put a low reserve on each piece (like $9.99) and let them go. I realize that it is a pain but that's the only way to truly find out what they are worth. And selling one piece at a time will always bring more...

    Versailles rear a bolt-in for a '65?

Yes they will bolt in but IMO it doesn't really matter. The Versailles disk brakes are hard to find parts for and are very heavy. Lots of people making kits to fit disc brakes onto a regular drum brake housing.

    My first yoke change.

There's no "one size fits all" torque specification. It has to be the right amount to get the backlash right.

    Floor Pan Rot

It's not a structural problem. I would kill the rust (I use phosphoric acid) and patch over it. We use to use old license plates as patch panels. They don't rust.

    My first yoke change.

Sorry, it's not that simple. You have to get the torque right or the gear teeth will not mesh properly and the gears will make noise. Som have a one-shot crush sleeve that has to be replaced. Back when I was young I did not know this. I pulled the snout to replace the pinion seal. I...

    4-speed questions.

Easier (and cheaper) to find a T5 and go that route. Plus you will have overdrive.

    Sticky Seat Tracsk

Somebody probably used wheel bearing grease on them and it got all gummy. Remove the seat and unbolt the tracks from the seat. Carb cleaner or lacquer thinner will remove the old grease but will also eat off the paint. Krud Kutter will work without dissolving the paint but will take longer...

    I need your help, badly!

Put it back on the jack stands. Remove the rear tires. Install a couple of lug nuts to hold the brake drums in place. Run the car up and see if the vibration is still there. Then remove the brake drums. After doing so DO NOT STEP ON THE BRAKES AT ALL. Run the car up and see if the...

    1966 289 HiPo Exhaust

I used the HiPo H-pipe and generic "dealer installed" system from Mustangs Unlimited. Bolted it together with muffler clamps - no welding or cutting required. Pretty sure it is 2 1/4" I did have to do a LOT of trial fitting to get the tailpipes over the rear end and lined up correctly.

how do these two cams compare?

LSA is a big deal. Affects the power curve and the idle characteristics. Assuming the same LSA - not enough difference to tell.
