    Slow Mustang

Sounds like, in addition to a low compression engine, timing as a start. Where does it idle and when is the timing all in? For example, I recurved mine to idle at 6 degrees and be all in at 36 under acceleration. I adjusted the vacuum advance so that at non-acceleration, it runs at a little...

    Is it a immediate problem?

Probably just needs adjustment. I keep a spare set of valve covers with the tops cut out for this; and I use neoprene gaskets so they can be reused. Swap the covers and then idle the engine until hot, then back off each rocker nut until it just starts to tap, then take it down until it stops...

    289 HiPo or 302?

Outside of the '65 convert. (one of which lives in my garage), the '67 F/B is my favorite body style. As for engine, I'd go for the 302. There were many made and you can find them anywhere. I even have one waiting for my next build and a third set of worked heads. But I'm in no hurry, only...

    Ford heads...

If you need head work like a valve job, you could have the head shop put bigger valves in the heads. If they use bigger valves, they will need to touch up the valve chambers, smothing them out. If you are mechanically inclined, you could also gasket match the intake and exhaust. I did mine...

    Polyurethane bushings

Mine were too stiff and squeaked no matter what I did so out they came and in went new rubber. Still got 'em in a box around here somewhere! I did use greasable poly bushings on the antisway bars so they could be unsqueaked. Man, it was horrible. And the shuddering caused by the rears was...

    best way to lower car

I dropped my '65 convert. 2" by using coil spring clamps on the front and aluminum lowering blocks on the back. Before someone says something about the coil spring clamps, they've been on there for 155,000 miles with no problems. The other way is to cut the coils, about 1/2 a coil at a time and...

    Aftermarket Dizzy?

Lots of different wires out there already to go, like Taylors, Accell's etc. They are spiral wound and low resistance and are custom fitted to your V8. You can get setups where you will be able cut your own. I've done this and it isn't too bad. But if you don't want to do it, buy some that...

    Aftermarket Dizzy?

It's not worth it unless you want it. I run 9mm's on my stock dizzy body with stock cap. However, I have recurved the unit ($25.00), replaced the points with Pertronix and use a high performance coil. I run a .060 gap. Unless you want to look, it is not worth it in my opinion and experience.

    Changing your differential fluid?

I have a cheap hand pump I got from Kragen. To replace the fluid, I just drive the car until the fluid is hot, then pump it out. Then replace it with what is required. I have a built 8" Tractionlock so the plug is in the center (sort of) of the rear of the housing. I don't know where it is...

    radio

You could be right but when I bought it I checked with Kenwood. They had an agreement with CAS and confirmed what I had was indeed Kenwood. Then again, that was then, now everything is different. The fact remains that is continues to work fine, hot or cold weather. But that's just my setup...

    radio

Be sure you check you grounds for the head unit and conections to the speakers. I've had my CAS set up for nearly 10 years and there has been no problem. It is all Kenwood.

    Front Right Brake Grabs

When I adjust my brakes I pump the brake pedal several times to recenter the shoes. Also, when you worked on the brakes, did you scuff the inside of the drums with crocus cloth? I don't use sandpaper because crocus cloth seems to work longer while not removing as much material. Also, is it...

Need Help Choosing a Cam for 65 Stang

I like smooth idle so I use a Performer grind cam. Good bottom end and when I run against someone, I can shift at 5,000 PRM and still pull hard. I also use an RPM intake and it works well. At about 3,000 PRM, the rear breaks loose. That is what I recomend.

    Tachometers

I use a 2" Sun screwed to the radio grill. It is so small that you can hardly notice it because it is in front of the wipers, plus I turn the light off at night. One screw an it's out, but you will have to have a plug for the wires.

    Exhaust Questions

In my case, an H pipe. I understand an x pipe is better.

    Exhaust Questions

They are 1 7/8 diameter at the inlet. Not good if you have wider pipes. They are not a single piece. There are two tips and one each is welded to the end of the pipe.

    Exhaust Questions

I use Hipo exhaust manifolds with gasket matched heads. Also Flowmaster Deltaflow 50 series and 2.25" pipe that has been mandrel bent so flow is steady. No GT rear valance as of yet, but I'm going to. However, I'm not going to use the stock tips because they are restrictive so I'll use 2.25"...

What is more informative when selecting a cam?

Look at duration at .050. Advertised duration is all over the place. Access your true needs and mods, and then call a manufacturer or two or Jegs tech lines to get advice. Know your rear end ratio and whether it is Tractionlock or open. Off the top of my head, a Performer type grind is great...

New to Mustangs! Need some help...

A mid-priced battery is good and will last several years. I'm thinking $40.00 or so. I'd get it somewhere that your system can be tested. It could be as simple as corroded terminals or as complicated as needing a new alternator. I have the sense that it is the battery or dirty terminals if it...

Heads to port or not to port

That's a tall order and is going to cost some $$. I'd start with aftermarket heads, cam, high rise manifold and a 600CFM carb. If I recall, these cars rans in the 15s stock. The Edelbrock RPM set of heads, cam, carb, etc. is a good set of parts. And get deep rear gears with Tractionlock or...
