    Suspension question

Sorry I am misunderstanding -- what is it that you want to do here? If you are going to do a V8 swap a little at a time, you are going to to have the jolting that you mentioned earlier because the springs are heavier. But doing a little at a time is doable if you can put up with it. And you...

    '05 convert?

Anyone know anything about an '05 convert? I'm a ragtop geek and don't want a hardtop. Might think about that if one is released.....thanks...

    Suspension question

Gonna be hard on $400.00. You will need an engine, trans, drive shaft, rear end, V8 springs on all four corners (recomend GT rates), V8 brakes, V8 A-arms (or those modified with V8 ball joints), V8 spindles and steering linkage and, dums, wheels and tires and misc. stuff. Also, the stock V8...

    Rear Gear Recommendations

I run a 3.40 Tractionlock rear with a 3.35 first geared T5 (with a built high revving 302). That thing leaps but still runs at under 2,000 RPM at 65 MPH in fifth (.68 fifth). Sure does surprise some of the big block cars that aren't optimized well. Depending on the power your 351 is going to...

Rebuilding 289... please advise on manifold/carb/cam

If you're gonna keep the stock rear gears, go with the Edelbrock Performer cam, their Performer 500 carb, and Performer intake. You'll get more power and gas mileage. If you're gonna do deep gears, the Performer RPM, cam and 600 carb work well. If you want to have a little fun, yo have to keep...

RIP engine? need some good tech.

Excellent idea. If all of that checks out, do a compression test. Then come back here and ask questions.

    Suspension question

If you do the V8 swap you'll have to change springs and a bunch of other stuff (I did this on my bought dead '65 convert.) so it might just be better to get the interior in. Put some sound deadener under the floors and spray on deadener in the doors and it should quiet down. The KYBs in a V8...

RIP engine? need some good tech.

Once, I had a distributor freeze and then unfreeze a few degrees later. The result was what sounded like a miss (ignition was off), but I still had oil pressure. Another time, I had the roll pin that holds the cam driving distributor gear go so timing was way out. Yet another time the cam...

    Suspension question

KYBs are supposed to be firmer than stock. The jolts you feel and the ensuing noises sound like they are from springs that are too highly rated or not settled down yet (it takes a little time to get them to relax). Are you sure that the springs are truly stock? If you put V8 springs, or...

    289 A-Code Perf. Build Up?

First, are you planning on putting the A-code in the '91? Some states prohibit older engines in newer platforms as part of the smog laws. Plus you probably wouldn't want a three speed in a '91 although it would be cool to be different. Back to your question; depends on the shape of the...

    Biggest cam for 70 302

I went with a Summit version of the Performer. The Performer RPM might be okay if you do go with deeper gears. But if you don't, you'll lose a lot of low end. I have a 3.35 first gear and 3:40 Tractionloc rear mated to a T5 in my 302 powered '65 convert. The cam and RPM manifold work well...

    Biggest cam for 70 302

What trans? What rear gears? Is is a daily driver? Stock springs or is he going to use whatever the cam grinder recommends?

    Flex Radiator Hoses

How about the standard molded hoses with the mesh covers? The hoses won't put pressure on he in/oulet and they look cool too. Plus you can get the covers for the heater hoses, too....just a thought....

    Borg Warner T-10 Tranny

Respectfully, no, there were no issues. The problem with the T10 popping out of gear is well known. The T5 (later model -- I got mine out of a wrecked '93 GT with low miles in '93) is rated higher than the T10. The T5 is also a top loader. Regardless of what the specs say, my experience over...

    Borg Warner T-10 Tranny

I put a built 302 an a T10 in my '65 convert. A year later the trans was popping out of 3rd. They don't handle much. I then put in a T5. Have 155,000 miles on the combo now and no problems.

    help me pick a carb...

You can get by with a 500 but a 600 is better if you're going to do something else in the future. I think the 650 is overkill. I use Edelbrock since they run well out of the box and are pretty tuneable. Some like Holleys.

    Running without a fan shroud?

Try it without. If it overheats, buy a repop; they are cheap. I have a built 302 in my convert. so I need one. But between the shroud, a seven bladed fan, a fan clutch and the WaterWetter, it is good to go in any temperature.

    Running without a fan shroud?

How bad is the fan? It sounds like it came in contact with the beaten up shroud. If this stuff is all original, it might be worth working on it to try to salvage it. If not, ordering new stuff from a reputable Mustang parts vendor is a good idea. Also charging your A/C unit is probably a...
