Replacement tires for stock Pirellis on 2005 GT

TireRack has test results for all of the tires you're interested in. You may be surprised that the Pirelli's are top rated when compared to the Goodyear F1's and the Michelins for dry weather driving performance. However, the others are better performers on wet roads, and also rated slightly...

    Re-Tuning

There's no need for a "high mpg" tune. A a performance tune will render the same mpg if one drives conservatively and keeps their foot out of the loud pedal. My manual 05 S197 GT has a CAI, BamaChips' 93 Race tune, and 3.55 gears, and it got 27 mpg during a recent 600 mile trip. And that...

    whats with the trap speed?

+1 on getting a tuner. With it you'll be able to raise the redline to 6800 rpm, shift at 6500, and that should enable you to cross the finish line in 3rd. That will eliminate the 3-4 shift, which can decrease the car's momentum and thus reduce the trap speed. And it may also lower the e.t.

    Re-Tuning

I'm not sure what the reason is for the other forum's suggestion wrt not reflashing, but FWIW I've been doing it a at least once a month since 6/05 without any ill effects.

    2nd Clutch

Agree that the clutches in these cars grab at different spots, but that's normal. Mine has been doing that since I drove it off the lot. Slipping is normally the most reliable mehtod to tell if it's failing.

Proper tire pressure for stock 17s?

It's strictly a guessing game trying to get the correct cold pressure by inflating them when they're warm/hot, because it's completely dependent on how hot the tires are to start with. Also, make sure none of the tires are exposed to the sun when adjusting pressures, since they can get pretty...

Brenspeed Tune, Failed PA Emissions Testing... help!

According to Doug at BamaChips, the Ford ECM runs a series of tests called "Readiness Tests" on specific systems and sensors, and these tests in turn tell the ECM if these items are performing up to par. However, when you tune your engine some of these tests are disabled by the tune in order to...

    2005 GT Pre- Tuned?

Totally agree with the others regarding getting a tuner. It's an extremely flexible tool that allows you to install different octane tunes, troubleshoot CEL's, adjust for non-stock options(differential ratios, tire diameters), perform data logging, etc. In the meantime, it appears that a...

CAI - JLT Vs C&L and octane question

That was my exact thought during the 1st drive after I installed a CAI & tune.

CAI - JLT Vs C&L and octane question

It is very confusing. I had to read it 3 times before things started making sense. The baseline is 261 hp with the stock tune, stock air intake, and the hydrocarbon trap removed. Then, CAI's from Anderson Ford Motorsport, K&N, and Mustang Racing Technologies replaced the stock air intake, and...

    Steering issue at 75mph

Glad that your problem is fixed. And hopefully the shop did not cut the left front rotor below the minimum specified thickness. Otherwise, it will quickly warp again, and the problem may return.

    maintenance question

Here are some general suggestions: 1- Nothing to inspect or lube. S197 GT linkages, joints, etc., are sealed. 2- Remove the wheels, replace the brakes if the pads are 1/8" thick or less, replace the rotors if they are rusty/have deep grooves/warped(brake pedal pulsates when braking)/less...

CAI vs Good HI Flow Filter

A CAI is normally supplied with a heat shield that helps to isolate the air filter from hot underhood air. IAT(inlet air temperature) data logging tests performed by S197 GT owners on another forum showed that the IAT increased at a faster rate and reached a higher level for the stock intake...
