Help With E-Brake Rattle (MGW Shifter)

I'd first determine if the rattle is coming from the e-brake. While accelerating, have someone squeeze (don't pull it up!) the e-brake when the noise starts and see if that stops the rattle. If so, take it apart and add more dynomat. If not, go under the car and make sure nothing came loose...

14" works fine for me. Got mine on sale at American Muscle.

    MGW Owners: Adjustment Question

I wouldn't call that a disclaimer. They're clear that the range of adjustment is from zero thru 10 and not to go outside that range. If you follow those instructions you shouldn't have a problem. It's certainly not a flaw in the shifter.

    MGW Owners: Adjustment Question

I believe there is additional noise, separate from the e-brake, that comes from the trans. The MGW has more of a direct connection with the tranny than the stock one and, as a result, is more noisy than the factory shifter which is more isolated.

    MGW Owners: Adjustment Question

The e-brake fix made a difference in my car. I didn't use the dynomat for the shifter - it's a little noisier but I like the sound. Makes the car sound more muscular but not loud to the point of being annoying.

    MGW Owners: Adjustment Question

That video is not up to date as far as the turns go. Max = 10. I have mine at 5 with the shaft as low as it goes. Great shifter - you'll be very happy with it.

    stupid question

I assume you have the SCT. I just looked at mine - on the underside of the plug there is a tab but I don't think it hooks to anything - you may want to squeeze it and see if that helps. When I first used mine, I pushed the plug all the way on and had the same difficulty removing it. Now...

    brenspeed or bama chips?

I've have tunes from both and they both work well. If I were you I'd go with Bama since he will redo the tune for any future mods you may purchase even if you purchase the mods from another vendor. That could save you money in the long run.

    Hurst or Steeda

I hate to touch the threaded portion of the shift linkage - paranoid about stripping the thread. Let me know how lowering the shaft works for you.

    Hurst or Steeda

I have mine at 5 and the shaft as high as it will go (bottom of shaft flush with the bottom of the shifter block) and it's not notchy. I thought of going to six but instead lowered the shaft which may have accomplished the same thing. It's stiffer but no problem getting into gear even in the...

    sct sf3 or x3

I believe the sf3 is the one you want. It should hold 3 sct tunes plus have room for 3 custom tunes. Go here for more SCT Automotive Performance Products

    Brenspeed tune problem?

I have the same issues with their 93 tune. I had them adjust it once but it still pings bad. I've been meaning to ask them to modify it again. I'm running the 91 tune now. In the cold weather it's ok but during the summer it also pinged. Had similar issues with the 93 Bama torque tune but...

How to remove the e-brake handle

Go to the MGW site Mustang Shift Handle and download or view the video installation. About 5 minutes into the video they show the fix. You need two small pieces of dynomat. One thin strip goes on the front of the brake handle facing the radio, a triangular piece covers a small hole on the...

How to remove the e-brake handle

Finally got around to doing it (the dynomat ebrake fix) and was amazed at what a difference it made. The noise I thought was coming from the tranny went away immediately. Funny how noise travels. Everyone with an aftermarket shifter should do this, regardless of what brand shifter you have.

How to remove the e-brake handle

I might do it this weekend. Is there a trick to getting the pieces to separate? Did you use just your hands?
