Tool for compressing 2.3L valve springs??

If you are referring to the tool that would compress the valve spring so you could remove the cam follower, that tool is a Ford specialty tool that has not been made for years and is very hard to find. I believe Esslinger makes a similar tool new though if you want that.

HELP! 2.3T suddenly blowing oil bad #3&4!

I would say it is a head gasket issue. If a turbo bearing failed, you would get equal oil out all spark plug holes. The pressure passage for the oil coming up from the pump is at the rear of the block and head. Agreed a compression test should tell the tale. It sounds like the gasket cracked or...

    Need some parts help

True. But, as was stated earlier, it really sounds like you can't do any mods at all. If everything has to be OEM and year-specific and unmodified, then really you can't do anything at all.

    Need some parts help

But that would violate the "must be available for that year of engine" rule above. I would find a 79-82 mustang or capri 2.3L with the 2 barrel carb (81-82 would be better because it has the d-port intake), block off the EGR, remove the emissions crap (except for the PCV) and set the timing as...

    Need some parts help

After reading all that, I agree. It DOES sound a lot like you can't so much as even change spark plug wires for aftermarket. What all CAN you change? I know what years what parts were available (head variants, EFI vs carb, single plug vs dual plug, roller cams, headers, tri-y manifolds, 1 and 2...

    1991 Mustang Rough Idle

To answer your question about the code reader first: You do not need a dedicated tester. All you need is a 12V light bulb, a few pieces of wire, and a Chilton or Haynes manual. Once the computer recognizes it is supposed to output codes, the light will begin to flash out the codes. Just count...

    Need some parts help

For performance 2.3L parts, check out Esslinger or Racer Walsh. Do some EBay searches using "Ford 2300" or "ministock" and you should come up with some 2.3L performance stuff also.

    Anyone on here on Facebook.com??

Anyone else on here on Facebook.com? If you are, I started a group entitled "Ford 2.3L OHC engines" I want to start a strictly 2.3L OHC non-turbo or turbo forum there. Just an FYI if anyone is interested! Thanks, Ethan.

    WEIRD NOISE???

Ok, this really could be a multitude of things here. One thing to eliminate, are you losing oil or leaving oil puddles on the ground? If yes, then your rear main seal could have failed and contaminated your clutch with oil. If you're not losing oil or leaving puddles, then it's time to look at...

    WEIRD NOISE???

What did the smoke smell like? If it smelled oily, it was probably fluid leaking out, if it smelled really gross like burning brakes, then it could be the clutch. It almost sounds like the transmission is binding up internally and causing your clutch to slip and burn. Check the tranny's fluid...

HELP!!! No start and can't find the problem??

My only thought here would be a failed ignition switch. Those cause some real weird electrical issues when they go out. Also, check your ground wires and grounding points.

    Can it be done?

I've heard cast iron with a crack in it can be welded back together with nickel. Not sure if this is true, but worth looking into. The welder would grind the crack out to a V shape and then weld it shut with nickel.

    timing belt broke! need help

No reason to remove the valve cover. All your timing marks are on the timing belt pullies. I need to change the timing belt on my 88 and will probably be attempting the above mentioned trick of sliding it out between the inner timing cover and crank pulley.

    timing belt broke! need help

Agreed. Won't hurt it. However, you will have to resynchronize your crank, cam, and auxillary pulleys. Not that hard to do. Set engine to TDC on compression stroke, set cam that small mark on cam sprocket lines up with center pointer on inner timing cover (what you see when you remove rubber...

    got codes now what??

No problem. That's what these forums are here for. Since most people have knowledge of the 5.0L engines, when I post a 2.3L question, I seldom get good responses. So I started dissecting my 2.3L's myself and finding my own answers and ways to diagnose stuff. My 86 is carbed, my 88 is EFI, so I...

    got codes now what??

First and easiest thing to do is to remove the valve and ensure that the exhaust passage is clean and free of debris and the valve, with vacuum applied to it, opens and closes smoothly and holds vacuum (no tears in the diaphragm). Also, while you're at it, follow your vacuum lines to ensure they...

Timing belt replacement without crank pulley removal??

Well, it is time to do a timing belt replacement on my 88 Mustang 2.3L. I've done them before, but I've always been elsewhere and had air tools handy. I don't have an air compressor avalable, so to save myself some time and money, is it possible to change the timing belt without removing the...

Idles then dies when SPOUT is in

Must be an error. All 2.3L crank pulleys should only have one mark cut into them (unless it's an early 2.3L with the actual timing numbers cut into it and the pointer on the metal timing cover).

    Reliability

My carbed 86 2.3L has 218K on it. My 88 mustang 2.3L has 76K on it and runs like new. Agreed with above posts- the A4LD automatic can be trouble. My 88 has that transmission so I installed a B&M supercooler in line with the cooler inside the radiator so that way I don't have to worry about...

Idles then dies when SPOUT is in

I hate to say "When all else fails, replace the computer.", but, with as much stuff as you have tested, if you have an extra computer lying around (or can grab a few at a local junkyard), I would try that. Oh, not sure if I already asked, but is the camshaft in sync with the crankshaft? Easy to...
