    TSB stands for technical service bulletin. It's Ford's official fix for the problem. It's not like a recall in that they won't send out notices to customers, but Ford often will cover the repair, even if you're out of warranty.

    The only 3rd gen V-6 F-body that was really quick from the factory was the '89 Turbo Trans Am. Basically a Buick GNX engine in a Firebird. But with enough money, anything can be modded to go fast.

    Problem???

    I would suspect the bearing on the layshaft, rather than the throwout bearing. The layshaft is the shaft inside the trans that is always spinning when the clutch is out. Press the clutch in, the layshaft stops spinning, and the noise stops.

    Any drawbacks?

    I don't like my seats. You should sit in a bucket, not on it. The seat is also a little too high for my taste, and the power controls underneath are awkward to use. I'd also like the shifter a little closer, but that shouldn't matter on an automatic. The Gatorbacks kinda suck: noisy, not too hot...

    Hows that?? My previous car is on its 4th Midas muffler in 4 years. At least I only paid for the first one.

    My experience with Midas is that their Mufflers, which do come with a lifetime warranty, tend to fall apart after about a year. Their pipes, which have a one year warranty last about a year and a half. Prolly won't be going back there again.

    16s will definitely work. That's what I have on my '02 GT for winter. You could even go down to 15s. If you run 16s, I'd suggest a 215/60/16. It's closer to the original diameter than a 225/60.     Shouldn't be too much trouble getting the bead to seal, but the rim would probably have just enough wobble that it might cause a vibration. I'd also be a little worried about the structural integrity of the rim after being bent and re-bent. Bullitt rims look cool....

    It's a little behind and above the differential. Very easy to get to on a GT.... and very pain in the ass on an IRS-equipped Cobra.

    Have you considered getting separate winter and summer tires? I have a set of 215/60/16 Michelin Arctic Alpins on 16" steel rims for the winter. I paid $581 for the set mounted, balanced, and shipped from Tire Rack. That's before the $40 rebate. I figure that's a heck of a lot cheaper than 17s...
