    Bad T5 tailshaft bushing

Is the outside diameter of the Cobra DS's trans yolk the same diameter as the OEM shaft's yolk?? Any tailshaft leakage evident? Bushing could be worn after all these years. Milage on car? Make sure the E-brake workings above the DS in the DS tunnel are not making contact with the DS. Marks...

Oil burning 5.0, can it be diagnosed without tearing bottom end down?

Have you checked your 150 to 155 psi readings against shop manual specs? If the 155 psi reading falls within spec and you have no cylinder down more that 10% of the others, your good. 70K is not a lot of miles by any means. Try your test again. Remove All plugs and during each cyl. test...

Whose fault is it? Rear control arms or springs?

Car info please? How old? '79 thru '98 Mustang has very little rear suspension travel to start with. (improved somewhat in '99) *Rear springs may be weak. *Pinion snubber may have deteriorated/fallen off causing metal-to-metal contact there. *Make sure the emergency brake...

Sure it's clean, but is he high?

I've seen the exhaust tip cut-out mod done before but done in a more appealing manner. Looked a lot better than that. The chrome trim is too thick. GT

    Opinions wanted.

What type 9 inchers are on there currently? 9" wheels w/ a 40 series tire is a nice combo. They can be rotated and are plenty wide enough. On a skid pad, the 10" wheel/35 series tire on the rear may not perform as well either. It kinda boils down to a pressure per sq. in. at the tread. GT

    Help carb suggestions 65 289

Oh! You could be right there about the 2 bbl/4 bbl heads. Later on I bought a 302 short block and used the original 289 cyl heads as they had the "closed" chamber design. I had the engine builder run the cyl head casting #'s and I took him on his word that they were of the 2 bbl design. As...

    Help carb suggestions 65 289

Keep in mind that even with the addition of a 4V carb/intake, most likely the 289 you have willl still breath much like a 2V as it most likely still has the 2V variety cylinder heads. I dealt with this on my '66 Coupe years ago. With limited funds, cleaning/rebuilding the OEM 2 bbl or going...

Shifter becomes stiff after long highway drive

Give MGW a call. I'm sure they will be more than happy to help you out. Obviously the heat is tightening it up a bit. Do you have a gasket between the shifter plate and the tranny to help insulate it from the heat/vibrations? A CobraBobs gasket maybe? GT

stock clutch cable and adjustable quadrant

OEM plastic quadrants over time dry out, crack and are known to detonate at a stop light leaving you w/ a tow bill. Any mod utilizing this piece is in vain. I installed the Fiore racing quad and their firewall adjuster along with the slightly modded OEM cable 3 years ago. Adjusted it to 1"...

    Oils and filters

As I remember the Premium Frams have a screen encasing the filter media to help it keep it's shape over time. I have been running 0W-30 Mobil 1 & Motorcraft filter. Instant oil pressure at start-up and NO rattling even in cold weather. I average 27.6 mpg on paper on my daily in-town and...

Is torque plate honing necessary for 4-500hp?

This slight cylinder distortion was found at the tops of the cylinder bores years ago. For street/passenger cars it's not really a big issue. To eliminate this, the designers of the modular engines utilized the long head bolts to grab the block at the base of the cylinders. Motorcycles...

    almost lost it

I have the MM panhard rod kit. 11 hr install myself. Beautifull addition! Very predictable handling now. Should have been standard issue for all Mustangs from '79 - '04. I wonder how many "mid curve" accidents could have been easily avoided with it. My wife had a cousin in Michigan die in a...

    CAI opinions

I have the UPR CAI (probably a MAC unit) with the filter in the fender. I wanted the cooler air from outside. Whatever you go with, be sure you integrate the original MAF sensors' screen into the new unit, in the same position, for consistant MAF readings. GT

Tire width comparisons, BFG to Yokohama?

After messing with tires over the years, I have noticed the same thing. The size 285/40/R17 is supposed to be 285mm wide at the widest point of the sidewall on the nominal rim width it's designed for. In this case nominal is probably a 9.5" or 10" wide rim. What you are seeing sometimes is...
