    65' Steering box

I understand what you guys are saying about the safety of the stock column but is there something a little less drastic that we could do just to get this car back on the road? Has anyone rebuilt one of these steering boxes before? Any sites you guys could direct me to? Thanks, Clay

    65' Steering box

I'm helping my friend with his 65' convertible. It has been sitting for a few years because of a problem with the steering. It has manual steering. The steering wheel has about 1/8th of a turn of play before it actually starts turning the wheels. I tried adjusting the screw in the top of the...

    smoking?

I dont think its your problem but you need to set the pressure with the vacuum line off. When you connect the line, the pressure drops ~5psi. You could be super rich and it is smoking but I doubt it. Oil could be leaking out of the lower intake or the valve covers. Clay

    Coil spring didn't seat properly.....

I would not recommend trying to rotate the spring if it has any tension on it. I tried that once and didnt think that the spring had much tension on it but it did. I tried to rotate it with my hands and it poped out and sprained my thumb. I would take the time to compress it and then rotate...

    331 or 347??

This topic has been debated a lot. Please do a search and lets not let this thread turn into a huge debate. Ive got a 347 with about 1400 miles and it is running fine. I would say pick which ever number sounds good to you. I would recommend CHP for a good bottom end. Clay

how many run solid motor mounts on street?

Ive got them on my 347. Its about 300-350 hp. I drive it everyday an love them. Its a little rough at idle but other than that i dont notice them. My 425 lb coil overs make the ride a little rough so thats probly why. Clay

    Steeda X2 balljoint

I have them on my 88 with 95 spindles. I think its worth it. I don't know if there was much improvement but the stock ball joints were $100 and I think when I got the X2's they were also $100. I would spend the extra $30 to get a better suspension geometry if your car is lowered at all. Ive...

    .060" Crank endplay... Ouch!!

Got some bad news. Just checked the endplay and there is a lot! I was using a 0-.015" indicator and it maxed it out. Its got 60 miles on it. Dont really know what to do now. The only thing it can be is the clutch. When I started it, I had the clutch cable disconnected so there was no load...

    .060" Crank endplay... Ouch!!

Just an update: I got the crank back Thursday afternoon and it looks great. Got the engine together and put it in Saturday night. Got it running today. Seems to be ok for now. I need to get this thing smoged before somethin happends again so im not going to beat on it too much. Still didnt...

    .060" Crank endplay... Ouch!!

So you dont think that having the clutch preloaded and pushing the crank forward for the first 10-15 min of this engines life could have worn the crank like that? Thats is the only thing that I can think of. The machine shop is saying to look at the clutch really close but I just dont see how...

    .060" Crank endplay... Ouch!!

Yes I am using the plate between the block and bellhousing. It is a stock T-5 from my old engine. I just brought the crank to the shop that did the machining on the block and they said it it fixable. They will send it out and have it welded and ground. Said it will only be about $100 and a...

    .060" Crank endplay... Ouch!!

The rod bearings are CB634P and all the mains except the thrust bearing are MB2121P. The thrust bearing is MB2122P. I cant find this bearing on Summit anywhere. Could this be the wrong one? The crank turned fine after everything was torqued. When I checked the thrust I had the center cap...

    .060" Crank endplay... Ouch!!

I built the motor so if anyones at fault its probably me as its my first. The mains were line honed. By rod side clearence, do you mean the clearence between the rod and the crank? If so, i checked before I pulled it and it was .023". I dont know what is normal, but it looks like a lot. And...

    .060" Crank endplay... Ouch!!

You think there could have been something wrong with the crank? I dont see how anything could have done that. My clutch cable wasnt tight all the time or anything, so nothing was pushing forward other than when I shift. Would you rebuild with a new crank and bearings and call it good? What...
