    header question

Yes, you do need P-specific shorties... FRPP and MAC are the only 2 sources, I believe. As far as LT's go, both BBK and MAC work. You will need 90* plug wire boots and also have to cut down a plug socket and use a wrench on the end of it to get at a few of the plugs.

GT40P and 1 5/8" BBK longtubes will it work, pics?

Here ya go: You will have to cut down a plug socket and use a wrench on the end of it to get the plugs on cyl. 1,2, and 3, plus use 90* boots on the wires, but other than that, no probs. Plug changes are still quicker than stock.

    1985 mustang gt

From another Canuck's point of view, it's worth it! Unfortunately, as proud as I am to be Canadian, people in this country are retarded when it comes to the value of their Mustang's... They all seem to think they are trimmed in gold! Converting to carb is easy and relatively inexspensive...

    Questions on camshafts and valvetrain

Woodsy: That would be correct if it was a pre '85 Mustang 4V, or an '85 CFI, passcar or truck motor(they could be either) All '86 and newer 5.0's, regardless of application are ROLLER CAPABLE. This means that they have the taller lifter bores and the 2 bolt bosses in the valley for the roller...

    Emissions

Cheeks, there is a Hot rod/Street rod clause in the Clean Air Act that basically states that if you swap in an engine that WAS NOT ORIGINALLY AVAIABLE from the manufacturer for that model year and vehicle, it will be tested to 1980 standards. So since a 351W was not offered by Ford in 1989...

    Carb setups

Electric Choke: Before you turn the key, press the pedal to the floor and release to set the choke on the fast idle cam. When you turn the key, the car will fire and run up to 1500 rpm or so (you have to set the fast idle speed- the carb will come with instructions). The choke is hooked up to a...

    Ford Racing VS Motive Gears

FYI: Motive is now making some of the gears for FRPP. If there is an "M" at the end of the FRPP part#, it's made by Motive.

    gt40p heads?

Depends what year explorer... '96 and early 97's have standard GT40's, so you would be fine. If they are off of a mid-97 -01, they are P's and require a P specific header... FRPP and MAC make P shorty's, and, while nor designed for P's, BBK and MAC long tubes do work.

    gt40p heads?

'96 to early '97 came with standard GT40's, while mid '97-'01 came with P's. -40's can be identified by 3 lines cast into the ends of the heads, and "GT" cast into the rocker valley and beside the lower rear head bolt hole. P's have 4 lines and "GTP" cast into the same places. P heads also...

    holley carb identification

4160 family 600 CFM Vac. secondary carb with electric choke and Ford auto trans kickdown. 64 jets in the primary, and the secondary plate is equivelant to a 70 jet. 6.5" power valve and black spring in the vs housing. (Stock from Holley) It's not a factory carb, but a universal replacement.

    Explorer Motor

I have heard some claims that BBK shorty's will work with 90* plug boots and a cut-down socket to get the plugs, but don't take that to the bank... You're best bet is to trial fit them for yourself.

    Explorer Motor

If you use P specific headers, you will not have to pull them to change plugs, or use different boots on the plug wires. That is why they are "P Specific". If you use MAC or BBK LT's, you will need 90* boots on the wires, and you will have to cut down a spark plug socket to loosen or tighten 2...

    Explorer Motor

Well, '96-early '97 have standard GT40's, while mid '97 to '01 have the P heads. Either head will do the job, but the P's are slightly better. Everything else is the same, with the exception of the EGR holes in the intakes, but since you have an SN it doesn't matter anyway. Late '92-'95 Mustang...

    gas mileage revisited

Well, at the high side(260/tank), you're getting 17MPG, and 12 at the low(180). That's an average of 14.5 MPG.... Considering it's optimistically rated at 19 city, 22 highway, you're not doing too bad.
