Whine from differential - most likely causes?

So there's starting to be a whine coming from the differential, low speeds. What are the most likely causes? Thank you.

    Car is crooked?

Not sure about switching springs. I just put in new springs, and I have the same lean. Maybe a bit less. Probably due to the fact that they are lowering springs.

    Car is crooked?

 The post right before yours. :) New springs, new isolators (energy suspension) on all four corners.

    Car is crooked?

Yes and yes. All control arms are stock, so 10 years old, but some of them will be changed next winter. As for twist, I have a convertible, so even more vulnerable to it, but the 94 and up models came factory with some subframes. Probably not enough though. But shouldn't body twist do the...

Wobble in steering. What's causing this?

Well, here's an update. I changed the front discs ($25 each from NAPA), replaced the balljoints with X2 units from Steeda, replaced the outer tie-rods with a Steeda bumpsteer kit (nice kit by the way) and the wobble is gone. By the way, those Steeda parts where accompanied with a set of...

    Car is crooked?

Hmm, you are referring to the front sway bar? I installed new endlinks from Energy Suspension at the same time I put in the Steeda sport springs with new isolators all around. Pigtails are properly positionned.

    Car is crooked?

Mine's never been race. Plus I think that "all that torque" would twist it so that the PASSENGER side would be lower and not the DRIVER side.

    Car is crooked?

Well, let us know we you have it fixed! :nice:

    Car is crooked?

The rear of my car is not level. I thought the new suspension parts would fix this. I just installed new springs and shocks/struts. Then I noticed that it still seemed crooked so I used a tape measure to measure the height of the fender lips above the center of the wheels. The front is...

    Stupid balljoint question

I called something like 7 tool rental places and 4 Canadian Tires (canadian equivalent of PepBoys/AutoZone) and none of them has a balljoint press for rental. To buy one is around $200 plus tax. A bit high for me. I won't be changing balljoints that often. And removing the LCA is a bit...

    Stupid balljoint question

One more question. Anybody here has the exact (or close to) size of the bottom end of a stock balljoint? Being unable to find a balljoint press in the Montreal area, I'm going to cobble one together using a 6" C-clamp, a 3/4" deep socket (for around the upper threaded portion) and...

    Stupid balljoint question

    Down. Cool. Thank you. :-)

    Stupid balljoint question

The balljoint on the LCA, do I press it down or up to remove it? To me, it looks like it should be down, but I saw a howto for a Ranger, and it looks like they where saying up. And Ford tends to be similar for stuff like that from model to model. Thank you.

    Brake bleeding with ABS? PIA!!!

Well, I disconnected the lines from the calipers and let them drain totally. I wanted to change the fluid since it's the original one (10 years old). I'd like to know too why the ABS never kicked in when I was sliding while braking?

    Brake bleeding with ABS? PIA!!!

Brake bleeding with ABS? PITA!!! Ok, nobody laugh please, but after owning the car for 18 months, I just found out that is has ABS. The reason I just found out is because they've never worked and I don't get a light of any sort in the control panel when starting the car. First winter I had...

    Cleaning calipers?

On another board, I was told to use brake cleaner and a bristle brush if they are really dirty or windex and cloth if not too bad to prep them. And DupliColor hi-temp paint. Anybody else?

    Cleaning calipers?

I have the front calipers out while I'm redoing the front suspension and was thinking about cleaning them, maybe even painting them. Any tips, tricks and ideas on the subject? Thank you.

    Front brake shield - removal?

Rivets? Darn! I'm going to have to drill them out? And what? Use a nut and bolt setup to put them back up? I'm changing springs, balljoints and tie-rods, so I really need the extra clearance. Anybody's done this? Philippe

    Front brake shield - removal?

The shields on the front knuckle, what the heck are they held with? Seeing the "bolt" head was hollow, I thought it was a Torx bolt (the whole set-up is very grimmy, so I couldn't really see). It's obviously not a Torx, but the "outside" of the bolt is round. Please help. Thank you.

Wobble in steering. What's causing this?

Ok, well, let's see. Part of the new suspension goodies is an X2 balljoint and bumpsteer kit from Steeda. So right away, the tierod/balljoint thing will be taken care of. The tire are evenly worn and should be properly balance (not a single vibration while accelerating, all the way to 130...
