MY NIGHTMARE @ Don Barry Mustang, JAX FL

Unfortunately, I wish you had posted this before you started, I could have told you what to expect. This guy's been a bad apple for years and is listed as such in a couple other forums. Cash the check quick and tell all your mustang friends to beware.

    engine capacity

Need a whole lot more info than that to even formulate a guess. What heads, solid or hydraulic, intake, more specifics on the cam? Bettre yet, tell us what you're looking for and we'll tell you how to get there if possible.

    Stupid headlight switch

You should be able to pull the wires off the back and just unscrew it from the inside. I have also had to use visegrips to hold the bezel though.

Engine question (having someone build me one...making sure he isnt feeding me B.S)

I have the E cam with EFI, and Twisted Wedge heads. The best dyno I've had is near 283 RWHP. The S/C and AFR's should get you some more, but I can't give you any idea on how much.

Engine question (having someone build me one...making sure he isnt feeding me B.S)

I agree 100%, (have 2 or 3 sets of most of those myself:D ) but since he was quoted $8300 for a long block less those 4 items; if you take the items from allcarfan's list and add for the missing pieces you get real close to 8K. With quality parts and a reputable builder, that's not a totally...

Engine question (having someone build me one...making sure he isnt feeding me B.S)

Allcarfan's pricing is pretty close to correct, but lets not forget, timing chain, timing cover, eccentric, thrust plate, lifters, spider, oil pump, oil pump shaft, water pump, thermostat housing and thermostat, flexplate damper and pulleys, ARP bolts. By the time you add all the little goodies...

Your thoughts on engine for road racing

"on the 68 you can't do the quick steer kit like you can with the 65-66 cars so i'd suggest the pro-motorsports bump steer kit as it also quickens the steering." Not true! It takes a little imagination but is a real simple swap. Start with a 65/66 PS gear box and send it to stanger53 (IIRC)...

    In-car oil pan swap

I also had to disconnect the drag link from the idler to get enough clearance. It also still leaks. $##$$#

New member introduction and a couple 289 questions

If you're already talking about a crate motor, redoing the suspension and brakes. Don't limit yourself to a V8 car. Also look at the 6 cyl's. It sounds like you'll be upgrading most of the changed parts anyway, so if the "Right" 6 cyl becomes available don't discount it. This is another one...

    68 Needs Repair Any Advise?

You show the passenger side pretty good, but not the drivers side. You're going to need and OEM style quarter, rear valance, tail light panel with drip corners, bumper, quarter extension, trunk drop off and trunk floor, trunk brace and trunk brace reinforcement, lights and rings. Possibly the...

    rear end difference

Another thing to note; the 6 cylinder cars have 4 lugs per wheel and the V8's have 5. The 6 vs 8 are radically different rearends also in that in a "true" 65 V8 the axle tube are tapered where as the 6 cylinder rears are straight tubes. Without a little more info it's kinda hard to tell what...

    recommended driving distance

I've read your post twice; if all that you have done is just change the gaskets, get a heat cycle or two and retorque the heads, intake, water pump and headers(if you have them) and get comfortable with the car. several short trips, or 50 - 100 miles whatever it takes to make you feel...

    Clearance Issues

What pistons do you have? I have the AFR 185's, Probe pistons, XR268R cam and had to flycut the pistons.(just barely) I've heard that some pistons don't require the flycutting, but don't remember any specific brands.

Fair price for the 67 restomod?

Depends what you're going to do with it. If you wanted to buy a good 67 coupe and then put all the go fast goodies and suspension upgrades in yourself, you're talking 20 - 30K.(over 10 in parts in drive train alone) 302 Coupe is right though it's still a 67 coupe. If it's a car you'd want or do...
