    A bit over simplified, but a (stock 289/302) 1.78" intake valve is to a 260 as a 2.06" valve to a 302. So, a stock 289 valve is not as small as it seems in terms of valve area per cubic inch. Also, the 1.78" valve is as close to the wall of a 3.80" bore as a 1.98" valve is to a 4.00" bore...

    I did it the same way. My Duraspark had too wide advance slots, so I welded them up and filed them back into shape, but with smaller slots. Then I adjusted the advance rate with different springs.

    Looks nice. Especially the Webers :) I'm not a fan of front spoilers on the early cars though. They look great on a Boss 302, but not on a 65-66 for some reason. Lowering the car a little would also improves the looks, I think.

    Yes, it has longer rods than a 302, but that's not a LONG ROD engine, but a short rod engine. The term LONG ROD is of course just short for "high rod ratio", it doesn't refer to the actual length of the rod. I doubt that 5.09 rods are long enough to provide clearance for a 3.50" stroke...

    Keep in mind that racing engines that are running 5 seconds at a time have different requirements than those that run 500 miles at a time. What works best for an endurance engine doesn't necessarily apply to a 2500+ drag racing engine.

    To all of you who make all kinds of claims about how the rod lenght affects the combustion process, have you ever calculated the differences in piston position and combustion chamber volume, like blkfrd (and me) did? I think you will be surprised.

    Don't get me wrong, +1" is hardly an industry standard. I just read it somewhere once and when I calculated it for some wheels, it seemed to be correct. I guess taking the lip into account makes the difference. BTW, I like your car, despite the paint. You're not making much progress either...

    Actual rim width is actually about 1" wider than the "advertised" width. For a Torq Thrust wheel, that means: 7+1=8", 4" BS = zero offset, 3.75" BS = 1/4" (or 6 mm) negative offset. If you check the American Racing website, you'll find that they are listed with -6 mm offset.
