    1966 2V 4SPD

What backspacing did you go with? It looks good now. Lowering it will definitely help it.

    STOP ME!

It would be good to know if he has the distribution block and proportion valve on his set up...along with the right MC. Stock 65-66 disc brake vehicles were configured with the KH disc brake setup, which includes a distribution block and an adjustable KH proportion valve mounted near the MC...

    STOP ME!

Where did you put the proportioning valve? Do you know if either the front or back brakes only lock up if you step on the brakes hard? My '66 manual disc/drum brakes take some effort, while my '67 power brakes make it too easy.

    Vacuum advance or mechanical advance

Interesting. The three different convential rear ends I had in my three Mustangs never left two marks (manual and automatics). All the power goes to the passengers side only. Although, I never used traction bars on those rear ends.

    Vacuum advance or mechanical advance

When you did your burn out go back an look if your car left one or two marks. One mark = conventional and two marks = limited slip or some other type (e.g. locker). Another way is to lift the rear of the car so the tires are off the ground, car in neutral and parking brake off - rotate tires...

    Vacuum advance or mechanical advance

215x50x17, 2200 @ 60 mph = approximately 2.78:1 rear end ratio (at least good for the freeway). Play with your timing curves, but you will feel more with the proper rear end gearing. A 3.50:1 is a good start, but your cam/engine and driving habits will help you decide.

    Vacuum advance or mechanical advance

So 60 mph @2200 with the C4 in 1:1...right? Do you know your tire height or size on the rear (gearing can be calculated)? If you have a stock Mustang 8" rear end it could be 2.79 to 3.00 (most likely). If you're lucky there will still be a rear end tag on one of the carrier nuts. Also, do you...

    Vacuum advance or mechanical advance

Fine tuning the timing curves on distributors are specific to the engine they are in, including vehicle weight, gearing, cam specs (rpm range) etc. Most of our typical Mustang performance applications like to see full advance by 3000 rpm or something close to that. Track or dyno testing is...

Welding Aluminumized Steel to Stainless Steel?

Like the subject indicated...it this possible with 80 (argon) / 20 (c02) gas? Should I use a different gas mixture or just purchase all stainless steel tubing? This is for an exhaust system with aluminumized steel tubing and stainless steel mufflers.

    66' mustang

Sorry jnatj14 were just having fun. You were just a victim of some past bogus posts from new members looking for kicks. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site that will help you out. The Edelbrock cam and head package may be something to look at (simple and easy to understand...

    66' mustang

The carb should be OK, but to get the 289 intake to work on the 351 you will need to get some schedule 40, 1.5" PVC piping at your local Home Depot, cut 8 pieces to fit the gap caused by the shorter intake runners. Secure the pieces with rubber cement (remember, let this dry overnight for good...

    Welding (and other) help please?

Your 289 is a good block if it can be cleaned up and if it's not bored over too much (0.030+) already. You can keep this block and make 300+ streetable HP without pushing your luck. Or it can be stroked (@ 0.030 over to a 306, 331, or 347 with the appropriate cranks (3.00, 3.25, or 3.40"...

    Welding (and other) help please?

1965 production block. Actual date made 6 = 1966, M = December, 21 = 21st day. Probably belongs to a 1967 model. Not positive what the "E" means - either where the block was made or a minor change was made to the original C5AE block design.

    '66 Fastback rear shock installation.

Did you remove the two chrome pieces in the upper panel near the trap door yet? I trying to remember correctly, but it's more involved than a coupe.

    Welding (and other) help please?

The engine production and date codes should be on the bottom of the block near the starter (or where the starter would normally be located). I've heard mixed things about the date code locations, so see what you have. Your 289 block should read: C5AE-6015-. The date code will be right above...

    Welding (and other) help please?

Usually the bigger bottle you go with - the better deal you get with the gas. I went with a moderate size (80).

    Welding (and other) help please?

My current welder is an older Clarke 100 and it does well for my Mustang's needs. Its limit is around 3/16" (which covers most metal on a Mustang). I've used it with flux-core and gas and I would highly recommend the getting the gas. Since the Clarke 100 does have it limits, my next welder...

    Anyone done a 9" swap with 11" drums ?

When I did my swap (57 9" rear end into a 1966, similar to ultrastang) I found a complete and ready to run set (11" drums, backing plates and hardware) on eBay for $100. The PO said that the drum set was refurbished from Currie but the backing plates have "Ford" stamped on them. Good luck...

rear axles spin in opp. directions

Subscribing (for entertainment purposes). I first encountered this when I was 16 with my first Mustang. I was baffled when I rotated the rear end and saw the tires spin in opposite directions!!! I don't know if this was a serious post or not, but we learn these things by...

    Header Selection for Stroked 302

I checked out the website and email them about my early year Mustangs. Looks like they deal primarily with 1979 and up Mustangs only...does this sound right?
