One more thing, which may not need to be said, but I’m going to throw it out there... Any time you press a bearing off of a pinion, carrier, shaft, etc... NEVER reuse it. Throw it away.

Okay, my apologies, let me try to clear that up. If you have a like for like branded bearing, yes... use the old race. I have actually mixed National brand with Timken and they were good, I wouldn’t try that with any other brands. If it was running fine and doesn’t show signs of damage it’s ok...

Just when I think I’m out

Made some more progress today! I got the k member in along with coil overs and spindles. I still need to bleed the brakes out and throw a rack in her.

Bingo. Just make sure the bearings are the same angle. Those Ford Racing install kits use Chinee bearings with different angled races. Find a timken or National pinion bearing. Heat your bearing in the oven at 225 degrees for about an hour and just drop it on the pinion. Don’t exceed 250...

Just when I think I’m out

Thanks! I need to drop in here more often. Progress on my heap has been slow and I haven’t a lot to share, but I’m trying to get back in the swing. my S550 was a Performance Pack car and the suspension was pretty tight, aside from the seats being an issue. It made me wince every time I hit a...

1- Yes 2- No, as long as they aren’t chipped or grooved rock on. I’ve used lots of used gears, no issues ever. In fact, I just put used 3.73s in my vert out of an explorer. 3- same rules apply for used gears. Keep your carrier shims with the carrier and just move the ring gear over. Hope that...

Just when I think I’m out

I think I’m just getting old. LOL! I have no illusions of greatness. I just kick around and do my thing... at a slower pace these days. I have a bad back and I’m trying to stay active more now, when it’s not killing me; I let it turn me into a couch potato for a long time. I’m trying to break...

Use a pry bar to gently pop the carrier out. Be careful, it will fly out and land on your head if you don’t watch it. When reinstalling, put one side shim in and GENTLY tap the other in with a small hammer or dead blow. Be careful, the shims are cast and will break. Been there, done that.

Mike, I’ve done more 8.8 gear swaps than I can remember. It’s super simple... an old racer taught me a trick. DO NOT use a new crush sleeve! Take your old pinion and sleeve to an anvil or brick, etc and hammer the side of the sleeve while rotating on the pinion. This lengthens the old sleeve...

Just when I think I’m out

Got some new shiny stuff for the vert. Eventually they’ll find their way into the car. I still haven’t dropped the new engine in it.. I’m going to flycut the pistons and put these babies on it before the heart transplant. Of course this will be after the five lug swap and new shoes part of the...

So, in other words, you partially did what 75% of Fox owners do to stock block 5.0s? I see nothing wrong here... Carry on! ;) I’m interested in seeing this new mill, man! Don’t be stingy with the pics!

Wow man, I have missed a lot being away. Interested to see the 2j swap, Mike. Glad to see there’s at least one pic in this thread of the Monster. I’d forgotten what a fabulous looking car it is. Last time I looked at the old thread I saw the 2jz swap had begun, but I never found a reason why. I...

Just when I think I’m out

*Sigh* Yeah. Good or bad, I don’t know, but he’s taking a break from college because engineering school is too difficult online apparently. This due to Covid. So, right now he’s on the road doing millwright work in chemical plants. His goal is to put a pile of money up to help pay for college...

Just when I think I’m out

I can guarantee I won’t be swapping that engine within a month. If or when I do, it’ll be because I pulled it to paint the engine bay along with the rest of the car. That.. will be a while.
