    My tire guides show the widest recomended wheel as 8'' with 4.5 back space. That is with stock rear width and no wheel well mods. 9'' fit 69 up.

    I think it's the timing

    My first guesse is the timing 180 off. [ done that a few times]. Plug wires not in correct place, point gap and dwell not set right. Electronic ignition will save you loads of time on tune ups. You don't need it to get your car to start.

    Yes. That is how companies who restore guages, trim etc. do it. Getting the color match can take some trial and error. Go to a hobby store that has a huge model paint selection. I don't think you need the clear coats. Most of the paints I think are origanaly done in gloss enamel.

    Coolant leak

    Rusty67 you must be aware that oil can leak past the studs that ends up with oil seeping out around the bolts. I never seen it bad enough to be a problem, but after all the work of cleaning up the rear, sure is a drag see those oily dirt spots on the carrier.

    Use the gasket. I use a little bead of silicone at the base of the studs to keep the oil leaks down around nuts.

    Probably a Dumb Question

    The only dumb question is the one not asked. I have reused stock bolts most of the time on a mild street engine with no problems. My personal opinion on lifters, especially ones I don't know the history of is to use new ones. You loose a roller and alot of very expensive parts can go with it.

    I would change the oil and filter. Before you started it the first time would have pulled the spark plugs to make sure you don't have any chance for hydrolic lock. I would leave the oil filler caps off and let the engine get to full operating temp for 15 min or so to let steam out. Don't worry...
