    1970 Mach1 Ignition Problems?

The MSD tech is trying to get to the same issue that has been mentioned twice already: It would be very simple to run a test wire from the battery positive to the distributor red wire. If it now starts normal and runs, you are in fact missing 12V in the crank position. The factory setup...

    1970 Mach1 Ignition Problems?

Check to make sure you have 12V ignition power to the distributor when the key is in the ON position and in the START position.

    Running Rough, won't idle...all of a sudden

Come to think of it, it wasn't carb cleaner I used, I was out. I think it was brake cleaner.

    Running Rough, won't idle...all of a sudden

It sound like a vacuum leak. My recent experience with this same issue was bad intake gaskets. I verified it by spraying carb cleaner around and the idle increased when I hit the leaks. Spray around your carb and gaskets, and see if your rpm goes up.

    MSD Distributor cap question

This is a response from an MSD tech for a poster who had a similar issue with fast wearing carbon ball:

    MSD Distributor cap question

Thanks for the replys I bought a new cap. ($33 + tax) They had one left in stock at the local speed shop. The missing item is called a carbon button and on some caps it is replaceable. Apparently you are suppossed to check to make sure there is no gap between the rotor and the carbon button...

    MSD Distributor cap question

What's missing in this picture? This is the inside of my MSD Distributor Cap. Is this normal? I thought there was supposed to be a round end carbon contact in the middle that conducts the energy to the rotor. I didn't see anything fall out a couple days ago when I removed it to pull the...

For those who have gone AOD, in here please... important ?

TV Linkage Adjustment & Retrofit Page - Baumann Electronic Controls, LLC I used a pressure gauge and the special gauge tool that came with the Lokar cable.

New engine - runs but wont idle

CSI on the vacuum leak... It's a lot worse once I got the intake off. There were several small gaps where the gasket separated. I have the hardware and fittings transfered to the new RPM manifold and will be installing it tomorrow.

New engine - runs but wont idle

Lol, I got ya confused when I quoted myself. When I said "I did" I was referring to your question that needed to be answer about the milling. I meant I did answer it. :) Anyway, Yes I did use the cork end gaskets. And I have also put intakes on (Chevy) with milled blocks with no issues. I...

New engine - runs but wont idle

Thanks for the replies I did. (above - .) I bought it new in 2000 and had it on my old 302 for 8 years. The primary sealing is the manifold intake ports to the heads. The intake ends are important too, but the geometry of the manifold and the heads are what determines what this gap...

New engine - runs but wont idle

Yes, I followed all the correct installation procedures. As you can see from my original post date, the 1262 gaskets worked since Jan '08. The Performer Intake has not been milled. That what I was hoping that the RPM had more "meat" around the ports. Can any one verify this?

New engine - runs but wont idle

Yes, I checked the torque of the intake bolts. Here is a picture of one side. You can see the blue Printoseal area of the gasket and the gap of where it separated and is allowing the vacuum leak, so the only real fix is to replace the gaskets. I was looking at the port dimensions of the...

New engine - runs but wont idle

I think have an issue with the compatibility of my setup. It has gone back to not idling correctly, just like before. The #1262 intake gaskets I installed worked, but it took a while, and they have developed a crack/opening almost a 1/4" wide at the top of the 2nd ports from the front on both...

    AOD from '83 Grand Marquis

I was told by a transmission shop to look for a hex indent in the top. These include stronger parts. I don't think they started 'til the late '80's though. Mine came from an '89 Cougar. If I was to do it all over I would have put in a 5 speed manual or go the extra with the Hi$ interface module...

AOD conversion - Neutral safety wiring?

What year is your Mustang? I didn't think manual transmissions had a neutral safety switch. later model manuals had a clutch safety switch. If your back-up lights worked before, then I would guess that those wires were for that.

AOD conversion - Neutral safety wiring?

If there are only two wires, they are for the neutral safety circuit. (one in and one out) There would be four wires if you had the backup lamps.

AOD conversion - Neutral safety wiring?

I took a multi-meter to the switch terminals and worked through the shift positions until I found the ones that close (near zero Ohms) when In Park and Neutral. A test light would be easier. Once I identified the two terminals on the switch I used the corresponding Plug wires and tied the rest...
