Hi, Also, perhaps give AutoMeter tech a call and get their take on it. I've used these gauges for a number of years and have seen no crazy swings in their operation. Goods Luck!

Could I have the wrong flywheel?

Hi, The difference in teeth count is not, mostly likely, your issue. Yes, there are reasons for when to use either a 164 or 157 tooth flywheel/flex-plate, but, this has to do more with imbalance bellhousing size, year of engine, auto tranny size/model etc. If your engine has run fine for the...

    Unisteer rack & pinion difference

Hi, I had similar issues (slight binding) when running a F/R unit through no fault of their rack. I "played" with the adjustment of the connective rods and was able to "dial" it out. So, you might want to re-visit that aspect. Good luck!

    Unisteer rack & pinion difference

Hi, It is tough(er), obviously. And..., made worse by my 225X60X15 BFGs too, as they add more road resistance, especially when parking. However, I look at this way, I spend 80-90% at speeds above parking. I guess too, I like more steering input and road feed back, which, is dampened by pwr...

    Unisteer rack & pinion difference

Hi, The difference (increased effort) is going to show up in low speed maneuvers, as in parking. Also, the amount of caster you run will affect the turning effort with manual units. Powered units will obviously negate a lot of the low speed effort. I'm running a TCP manual unit and like the "at...

    Tire clearence issue

Hi While it's true those springs could be suspect, an alternative is to reduce the tire profile to "60". That is, run a 225X60X15 tire. This tire is 25.6" dia vs 27.4" for the "70". Good Luck!

    New heads?

Hi, While your comment is true in theory, It doesn't come without more research and cost check to make it a reality. Our friend needs a starting point of 58 CCs, to be within a starting margin to simply swap out heads for a performance increase. Whose ever heads, outside of his stock heads, is...

    Too close for comfort?

Hi, From my perspective, I think you're on the right track with the heat insulation deal. Try it, test it, check it, then, make your call. When faced with similar problems, I start small and simple. ...and I do have my secret stash, just in case, as well. Shhhh! Happy Motoring!

    New heads?

Hi, I tend to agree with 2+2GTs approach. In that, it appears "MHJO" is just looking for "more feel" in his "seat-o-meter". If he can optimize those stock heads for under $500, with porting, blending matching, springs optimized for the cam etc., then this is money well spent and is affordable...

    Ny 67 stroker build

Hi, I think you should do a little more research. A 408 will need a lot air to breath deeply. Those 170s are not going to cut it. It would be like you breathing through a straw! They are a good head, all else being equal, on a 331, perhaps a low HP 347, but, I would not use them on anything...

    Chrome or polished aluminum?

Hi, I'm thinking those chrome would, probably, work well in the engine compartment, There is always "oily" fumes around to help retard rust. However, "when you play, you have to pay." This means, there is a certain level of your participating in an occasional clean-up. You can't add this stuff...

    Opinions on Engine Breather Systems

Hi, I'll add, another benefit of a closed PCV system, is a reduction in crankcase pressures. This reduces any tendencies for oil seepage through, otherwise, weak oil pan and valve cover gaskets. Just another thought.
