I want my car to sound like this!!!

Opinions for everyone. But, no offense, it just goes to show that the new generation of enthusiasts with the modulars and such have lost touch with the true sound of old school, cammed, push rod performance. Beautiful. I love my '03 Cobra, but starting up my 331 '66 is always a special...

    GTO run ins???????

Only one run in so far. Fla. Turnpike on-ramp not really taking notice, I thought that I was behind a Honda or Mazda. I then noticed the exhaust note and realized it was a new GTO. Entered Turnpike after ramp at a 35 mph clip and holding second gear. He hammers it and I respond. He was an...

Should I be able to hit 13's?

If everything is set right (timing/jetting) and you get any sort of traction, you should get in the 13's by accident. Before I ripped my car apart again, my 66 Coupe with a similar .30 over 289, 650 dbl pumper, a larger cam, the stock c-4 & conv., TFS heads, and all the other "bolt on's"...

    66 mustang project

Certainly a breath of fresh air. A motivated teenager opting for a classic Amercian car. Good choice, and you can ook forward to meeting a lot of good people during your journey of ownership and restoration. As far as the car. I can't recall if you mentioned it, but are you on a timeline...

    Overheating again...

I take one last crack at this. WORTH, your experience and profession have obviously given you the knowledge to be confident and correct most of the time. But, the flex mechanical fan does make a difference on SOME cars at highway speeds. Example. I have a 66 Coupe that when I first started...

    Overheating again...

Paul619 I'm glad it worked and that I/we could help! I also understand the skeptics and the physics behind the whole air flow / water flow thing that have been mentioned, and I don't have a positive answer, but the switch makes a big difference at any MPH depending on setup/condition. That...

Manual tranny not staying in reverse

Do you have an aftermarket shifter? If so, your lower adjustment bolt is out to far. If you have the factory shifter take off the boot and see how it looks. Might jave an obstruction or need to be replaced. Def sounds like it is just out of adjustment.

    Overheating again...

If you have tried everything, my suggestion would be to remove the electric fan and try a regular aftermarket 5 blade fan. If you have the factory or 2 row radiator, the electric fan can't cool the water with your motor's HP #'s. The electric fan would work fine, but with a larger 4 row...

How much difference do gears REALLY make?

Your example goes from a street tire to a tall slick. My reply was directed towards a street application. A 285x45x15 wheel/tire next to a 285x45x17 wheel/tire and the difference is approximately 1.5 inches. Same tire, with different wheel. Your statement is correct but I don't believe...

    mild 289, part II

Coming from someone who is in his 30's now, and "rebuilt" my '66 for the first time in high school, if you don't have the money to do what you want to do, wait, save, and do/get what you want. I know it is frustrating, but be patient and do it right the first and only time. You will end up...

How much difference do gears REALLY make?

3.25's, if you are looking for a "kick in the pants" is still too conservative. Compinsate for you tranny (overdrive?) and your wheel size (16" or higher go for more aggresive gear). You mentioned not to much highway time. If so sneek a better gear in there (i.e. 3.89) for sure/no doubt. If...

Big problem 67 stang please help

The previous owner might have installed a larger or incorrect radiator and not compinsated for it (width). Also check the spacer between your pulley and your fan. This is also sometimes aftermarket and not the right size. Check your mounts, but even if they are bad I don't see the motor...

    Low Engine Knock

I was in your position less than a year ago. Rebuild/replace a motor or sell. Depending on options, rebuild /replace was going to run $5,000 to $10,000, and I could not swallow selling the car to someone knowing that there was a problem with the motor. Long story short, I traded my '97 Cobra...

    Flowmaster or Borla C/B?

I have the Borla Proxis with no cats and am satisfied with the sound. Relatively quite at startup and easy driving. Mean and loud at w.o.t.

    4.10's in an '03

The price of the swap various greatly. With the IRS cars the center unit has to be completely removed from the car. Steeda in Pompano Beach Fla. quoted me $325, but I've heard of prices north of $500.00. Shop around, and only use someone who has done it before.

    4.10's in an '03

I do not believe that the gear change is just for th launch. As Walt D stated in rgards to interstate driving, with a higher reving motor putting your self in an rpm band that suites the motor even more can only help the over all driving experience. I understand the traction issues, but the...

    4.10's in an '03

Anyone have or know anyone who has 4.10's in an '03 Cobra. The install is not a problem, I am just curious if anyone has an opinion in regards to the performance difference. I did the swap in my '97 and it was a no brainer. Several people I have spoken to are against it with the '03 because...

    Should I trade up? Help!

Understand, that both cars started from the same place. But, never in the history of the cars has there been more differences. Even comparing '03's to '02's and earlier DOHC motors. The internals are so much better, there's no comparison. Many reports say that the internals of the 03 could...

    Should I trade up? Help!

My suggestion, if you can afford it, is to throw all the $$$$ signs out the window and do what you would do if money were no option. Pay no attention to the blue book on your car or the '03, how much you owe on your car, or whatever other money generated hesitations you might have. These #'s...
