To sway or not to sway?

My experience....after trying the cheapo PSTs (?), I went with adjustable Stambars. I bought a 1" for the front and an 11/16" for the rear. When I bought them, the cost was not much more that the cheapo's; they probably cost more now. After playing with the adjustment, the body roll is almost...

    Different 8" Question

Yup -- I bought an 8" Traction Lock out of Hemmings and drove it for 120,000 miles, some pretty hard. Then I rebuilt it about 30,000 miles ago. I got a slightly later one. I have a '65 convert. and I bought a pumpkin out of a '67 Fairlane becuase it has a webbed casing and was therefore...

    Misfire above 4000 RPMs.

If that doesn't work, try putting the points/condenser back in the distributor (I assume you have a new cap?) and try that. Pertronix is usually pretty good, but sometimes fails. Also check all ignition connections. Maybe you have a bad connector that only bounces around that RPM.

    advice on front end woes

Sounds like you kissed a parking lot stop and knocked your front end out of alignment. If it seems to be okay otherwise, you might just need an alignment. You might consider taking it to a good alignment shop that will spend time on it. It will cost more but be worth it because they will also...

    Tach Type and Location

I took a different approach; mounting a 2" Sun on the dash speaker panel using one of the panel screws. It is very visible to you there. I had to run the wires through the defroster plumbing but that was easy. I currently have a '65 convert. but IIRC I did the same thing on my '67 A code some...

    Mufflers?

I sure like the Flowmaster 50 series Deltaflows. Not cheap but sound good on my 302, and there is noticably better power than the glass packs I had on there before. If money is an issue, then turbos from Kragen, etc. might be a good idea. They sound good, too, but won't give you quite the...

    timing chain wear ?

Naw, you don't have to let it snowball. If your oil pressure was ok before you started, leave the pump alone. I'd replace the timing chain and gears, though. Go to the parts house, like NAPA, and get a good standard chain (made in the USA preferebly) and put it in straight up. As far the...

    T5 fluid

In addition to what the other posters said, you might consider Mobil1 synthetic ATF (Dexron III, I think). The moment I changed from non-synthetic to synthetic I could tell the difference. It doesn't cost all that much more and shifts much smoother. As I recall, it took 3 quarts, but I could...

    Opinions please...

I drive a 20 footer too. But I keep it looking more like an 18 footer :p by using McGuire's Quik Detailer and Spray on Wax. Keeping it detailed as much as possible is good; tires, too. If someone complains, you can tell them it is a work in progress. I think your car looks better now than...

    T-5 yolk questions.

I took my D/S to a D/S place and they had the correct universal joint in stock. They pressed it in for no extra charge. Be careful about the D/S length. If the yoke is too far in it will bottom against the tailshaft of the T5. If that happens, the least you can expect is a torn seal. You...

    Need advice bad!

I'd go with the 6 cyl car. In fact, that's what I did. I bought a then-dead 6 cyl/automatic '65 convert. Then I converted everything to a 302/3 spd. car. And then I went from there. Now it has a warmed up 302, a T-5, a 3.40 Tractionlock 8" rear, and performance V8 suspension. If you are...

    Wacky Tach

Do you have a spark box on your car? If you have one that produces multiple sparks per combustion stoke, it will make the tack act weird because the tach is connected to the coil which is where the spark box connects. The other thing to check is how well grounded the tach is. I bolted mine to...

    8" 3.55 Gears

Pick up a Hemmings Motor News at a book store and check out the Mustang and Ford parts sections. There are vendors who will sell rebuilt chunks, or chunks that are not rebuilt, but guaranteed, a lot cheaper than the Currie type companies. I think there are even rebuild kits listed if I...

    What's the limit?

A recurve lets the timing come in faster so you get a better spark. Stock distributors are slow. For a $25.00 kit, you can adjust it so it is optimized. Ther Pertronix unit turns your distributor into an electronic ignition. It takes about the same time to install as a set of points. A hot...

    Carburetor question ?

V = venturi. You will have either two or four with a V8. I have been very happy with my Edelbrock 600CFM carb. You could probably do well with a 500 is you're as stock as you say. But a 600 will run very nearly as well and prepare you for other performance stuff you might do later. Holley...

    What's the limit?

The strokers and 351s are very nice, but you can do a lot with a 289, too. Pick up a book that deals with small block block Ford performance at a decent book store. For example, a high rise intake, 500CFM or 600 CFM vacuum secondary, cam, headers (I recommend the Hipos because they go forever...

    No spark from coil..

Work backwards replacing everything you replaced with what worked before starting with the coil. So much of our parts are imported crap with little if any quality control, that it must all be checked. I had a coil suddenly die and it turned to be a bad winding. IT would start fine but...

    Cams

Any idea what your rear end gears are? The idea is to keep the engine in its power band, so it will matter. If you have 3.00's or so, then the Edelbrock Performer grind is great. Lift and duration is higher but not so much that you have to change valve springs, etc. Summit has the same grind...

I'm back to give it another shot

If you don't like what someone says, you can simply ignore them and focus on the stuff you like. Like what you are doing with your car, which sounds pretty cool. I've been on the Net a long time and there are always those who will fit into the immaturity space; don't get drawn into the crap...

    Problem w/Edelbrock carb etc.

I'd adjust the idle on the carb. Mine was off (I have a manual choke 600 CFM Performer carb) because the linkage was off. It is worth a try. First though, follow the procedure for initially setting idle mixture. These should be close, but your idle adjustment sounds suspect.
