Why are the 73 302HP so low?

I had one and I think it was more like 120 HP but it has been a while. The big reason was low compression. If I recall, it is 8 or 8.5:1. That plus big chamber heads, cam, cam timing and ignition timing were the culprits. To get the compression up, you'll need flat top pistons and older...

    2 bbl to 4bbl

Recurving a dizzy is pretty easy. You simply put in lighter springs and an adjustable vacuum advance and experiment with the transition between mechanical to vacuum advance to optimize your ignition. The standard curve is really slow. You want it to come in a little more quickly and top out...

    2 bbl to 4bbl

Yep, you'll get about 20HP more but you'll feel it when the rear barrels kick in. What kinda carb are you considering? I stopped messing with Holleys and went to Edlebrocks. I have a manual 600 on top of a Performer RPM with a 1" phenolic spacer between the two. Also an open element air...

    T-10 Four Speed

That is my experience, yes. The T10 had design flaws in the gears, perhaps mettalurically softer gears. My experience is that they are not equal in terms of durability. But that is just my experience. My guess is that if that $150.00 trans is installed it will slip out of gear. It is also...

What type of tranny fluid do you use?

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. When I retofitted one (from a newly wrecked '93 GT) into my '65 convert. 155,000 miles ago I started using it. I change it every year and the trans still shifts like new. The '01 GT convert. gets it now too.

Anyone reloacted their upper A arms?

I have the Pro Motorsports kit waiting to go in when I do the front end on my '65 convert. But in the mean time I put adjustable anti-sway bars on the car and it nearly stopped the body roll altogether, especially the rear. Without roll, you won't get understeer. Best of all, it can be done...

    T-10 Four Speed

Careful -- the T-10s are fairly light duty transmissions. I have never had one that didn't slip out of second or third. Then again, I like acceleration. If he is selling it that cheap, it might already have that problem. You didn't used to be able to get gears and synchros for them but I...

    HEADLIGHT ON US MUSTANGS

Actually parking lights have to be on for the fogs to come on (on my '01 GT anyway). And you don't have to have the headlights on at the same time. Cool look.

    tires for 2001 GT

I put siped Toyo ZRs on mine about a month ago. Don't know about the Nittos, but the Toyos sure grab on take off and in the corners. Most people here like the Nittos so you probably couldn't got wrong with them. Get 'em siped though so you increase traction and help water move out of the...

    97gt can't spin tires?

Have you done any maintenance to it? A clogged air filter, old spark plugs and dirty injectors will nail your power and mileage. Those are cheap fixes so it might work it try them first. You could also have decent tires that hook well...does it spin up fast once you get rolling?

    no antifreeze

Also, if you don't want to guess on the mixture (50/50), premix half distilled water and half antifreeze in a clean gallon jug.

    no antifreeze

Best to follow the instructions on the flush. You could damage the hoses by leavng it in too long. The flush compound works fairly quickly anyway. Here's a hint, when you refill after flushing, use distilled water instead of regular water with your antifreeze. Less minerals. And also use...

    Changing Oil

Good syn severly limits wear. That, plus not having to change it nearly as often and there is no reason to switch back except the cost up front. I noticed that each of my engines spun up faster with syn. I attribute this to superior lubrication. They also run cooler in my experience.

    flowmaster mufflers

Here's my experience with Flows. Granted this is on a built '65 with a 302 and not a 4.6. But going from stock to Blue Flame glasspacks helped. But seat of the pants change going from the glasspacks to 50 series Deltaflows was really noticable; power, torque and gas mileage. Adding a balance...

    What intake do I need?

Here's my setup in a '65 convert that I brought back from the dead (it was a 6 cyl/automatic): built 302 (Summit's version of the Performer cam 'cause I don't like lope), with heads I ported in the garage with 351 valves. On top a Performer RPM/Performer 600 carb, Hipo exhaust manifolds and a...

Best way to keep your engine bay clean.

Cover the alternator and then use a garden sprayer with a mixture of almost hot water and clothes washing detergent to gently wash it down. I use simple green for the stubborn areas (got a few on my '65, the '01 doesn't have any yet). Then rinse it with the same sprayer with clean almost hot...

    wheel/tire advice...

I went through the same exercise and wound up keeping the Bullitts, but put Toyo ZRs (sniped for better traction) on my '01 convert. They look nice, the cost was not too terrible and the tires hold real well. Got 'em at Les Schwab.

    Cleaning headlights?

After making sure the lenses are clean (or they'll scratch from the abrasive quality of dirt), try some motorcycle windshield polish. I've had great luck with it on one son's '94 T-Bird and another son's '80's Ford 3/4 ton p/u. I also use it on my '65's rear lenses and my '01 fronts.

    Freakin' boot cover

They do take some messin with. Is yours the one with just two snaps on the sides, the plastic tongue in the front, and the rear that slips into that small space just between the top material and the rear trim? If so, I might be interested (what color is it?) I'd have to modify it though so it...

    STUPID MUSTANG SEATBELTS!!!!

I turned the buckles over.. So they face up instead of down. Work fine now. When they faced down the belting would get twisted and wouldn't retract all the way.
