    I thought the mustang didn't need 31 spline, i thought 28 was what it needed...will the 31 spline be just as good for the 6 cyl, after axle shortening of course?

    You got it, see i could very easily buy an 8 inch, but the gearing would be out of whack and they wouldn't have DB's most likely, with the explorer, i get the gearing I need and the DB's that i want, the machine work is just one obstacle but the result will be worth it once I get some shiny new...

    Superformance, if you do decided to go with the 9 and sell your 8, PM me as I need an 8 inch...that is if the explorer rear won't work out.

    welp....cars goin in for paint today

    You don't already have the front valance on? If that is the case then you need to get it put on before paint, otherwise you might scratch the painted valance putting it on.

    I will use the 8.8 because the gearing is right around the area of the 6 cylinder and it won't be too hard to find a posi or locker, If you plan on getting over 300 horses or some number like that then a 9 inch might be better, an 8.8 would be perfect for a T/C T-5 6 cyl. But it might not handle...

    97 explorer rear, a little machine work and I will have a 3.20 posi with DB's and for a good price, doesn't get much better...

    That is what I needed to hear........so shorten one side, put in spring perches and bolt er' in? That seems easier said than done but I will try to get things lined up to do this project, thanks 96 DOHC Cobra for the info, it is much appreciated.

    Need some good advice on buying a classic Stang

    golf, I would also like to hear the story on your 8.8 as I am planning the very same swap in the near future....BTW, how can you afford U of M tuition, an 04GT, and still be looking at a classic 429 or 06 GT...whatever you do for a living is paying off

    Is that an either or situation? Can I just weld in the spring perches and use spacers or is newer axles a must have? How much are new axles?

    Well how much will the machine work on the explorer rear be? I don't think buying it will cost me too much if I do my homework but i am more interested in how much money it will cost for a machine shop to cut it down so it will bolt in. Thanks

    I heard first about using the explorer rear end, then I heard others in another forum discussing using the ranger rear end, which is better for my application? Better yet, which would go under a 65 easier...?

    for 80K i could build three mustangs the way I want....the last time I came close to that much money....I was strolling past a bank...man I want to know what he inheireted (sp?) ...
