    TPS Location on '89 2.3 N/A

Yup, the TPS is on the back side of the throttle body (the side closest to the firewall). It's kind of a pain to reach back there to replace it or adjust it, but you can get to it. The IAC is right on top of it, so you kind of have to bend and contort yourself to get a look at it...

    4 cyl t5 bearing retainer??

    x2 The V8 T5 bearing retainer DOES NOT fit a 2.3 T5.

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

Yeah, I'll definitely keep my eye on it. I got a new switch to replace the questionable one I just had lying around. The new one has a ground lead in addition to power and load leads, and it lights up when it's flipped on so it was worth the $7 :) Initial tests indicate this setup is going...

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

Could a poor connection cause the fan motor to barely run and the wires to get hot? One of the car's previous owners apparently tried to fix the problem of the fan not turning on, and they performed some god-aweful splices on the wires going into the control module. I cleaned up the fan...

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

I understand exactly what you're saying, but that won't work for me b/c I've eliminated the control unit (b/c it was fried). You're manual switch is just providing a resistance-free path to ground, which has the same effect as the temp switch opening to ground in the factory setup, but you're...

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

Aright guys, I must be dumber than I thought when it comes to electrical systems... somebody help me out here. I wired up a manual switch for my fan but something isn't right. I keep blowing fuses (I've gone up to a 30 amp), so I tried briefly wiring the switch without a fuse. The fan barely...

    Need Help

They're both controled by a single module under your dash on the driver's side. I'm having problems with mine too... look at some of my recent posts on this page and you'll probably find out all you need to know.

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

What amperage fuse are you guys using to protect your fan power circuit? My Haynes manual says there is an 18-ga fusible link protecting the power wire from the starter solenoid, but I'm planning on using the wire from the ignition switch to the fan control module as my power source and there...

    need help

On the leaking fuel shrader valve, I've gotten the needle thingy (pintle?) in the center of the valve stuck in the down position after removing a fuel pressure gauge and that made it leak. Take a small screwdriver and CAREFULLY try poking down on the needle and see if you can get it to pop back...

Bad FPR is a good guess. Also check your computer codes, even if your CEL isn't on.

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

Exactly what I'm planning on doing... get the power from the ignition just in case I forget to switch it off when I turn the car off. From all these replies this seems to be a common problem... either the fan coming on too late or not at all. I do have one question regarding wiring in a...

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

I was thinking the same thing, so I put the GT's temp gauge sending unit in place of the fan switch and tested it. Well, not only did the fan not come on, but I fried the fan control unit! When I pulled it out from under the dash, the terminals for the starter solenoid (12V power source) and...

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

Man, that really sucks. I agree that's a stupid design... if mine acts that way I might wire up a manual switch so I can just turn it on from inside the car.

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

I read about the same test on another site tonight, tried it, and sure enough the fan came on. Tomorrow I'm replacing the switch. I've got the stock temp gauge sending unit from my '90 GT and it looks like the same piece... anybody know if I can use it and save a few bucks?

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

I'm dealing with this same problem in my '87 2.3. Here's what I've found so far in my investigation: The fan is controlled by a module that's under the dash on the far left side (pretty much right below the driver's side A-pillar). The module has 8 wires going into/out of it. It gets power...

    SPIT & SPUTTERING?

I agree. Even if your CEL isn't lit you might still have codes stored. Definitely check them before you spend any time or money doing anything else.

Code 14 - Ignition profile pickup erratic?

Well, I don't know if it was the PIP or TFI that was causing my problem, but putting in the junkyard dizzy & TFI fixed it! Thanks again for the input.

Code 14 - Ignition profile pickup erratic?

Thanks for the responses guys, and thanks for the very informative links evintho! I scored a dizzy & TFI module out of a relatively low-mile junkyard '90 LX, so I'm gonna try just bolting the whole thing in place of my 162,000 mile original.

Code 14 - Ignition profile pickup erratic?

Hey guys, my 1987 2.3 N/A has been intermittently losing power during acceleration. I checked the codes and got a 14 - ignition profile pickup erratic. I'm guessing it's either a problem with the TFI ignition module or the profile ignition pick-up in the distributor. Anybody have any...

    broken door handle

First make sure you've got all the screws out... I think there's 3 or 4 in the armrest, 1 holding the window crank (if you have manual windows), 1 in the triangular plastic trim piece over your side-view mirror, and maybe 1 or 2 more in the panel itself (near the speaker?). There are 12...
