Need A Little (a Lot) Of Help...

One thing to consider if it's a manual and it's in gear the engine won't turn with the rear wheels on the ground. Same thing with an automatic in park. You want neutral or to get the rear wheels in the air to allow the engine to turn over. Hopefully it's something minor. Good luck and welcome!

    Paint Choice

I remember as a kid there was an older local kid that had a gray and black 73 Mach and that car was beautiful. I agree with you in thinking there's something about the shape of the 69 and 70 cars that they need a different color on the hood at least, unless they are black or have a Boss 429...

    65 Fastback Squirley Rear End???

I agree with Jim and wanted to also say that even beat up, deteriorated leaf spring bushings could cause this.

    Mustang And A Half

I know what you mean. I would want it if I saw it in a yard. The last '70 convertible I saw in a yard was worse than that '69 and they wanted $1,500 for it. It had been hit hard, rusted completely in half, and had almost no usable parts left on it other than that trim. I might have bought it...

How Many Colors Has Your Stang Been?

Originally forest green, now black. It will need paint again before too long and I would either do a dark green or black.

    Which Engine Would You Choose?

If you're doing a street build less than 450 hp I'd buy a 302 core block from the late 80s with the provisions for roller cam. For a cam I'd recommend you call Comp and tell them everything about your application and they will select the cam and springs you need. Make sure you know all the...

    Which Engine Would You Choose?

If you're doing a stroker I'd go 347. I like Coast High Performance. You can get into a stroker kit for around $1700, but then you still need machining. I do think that a stroker kit is a good way to go. If you just bore, buy good pistons, put ARP bolts in the stock rods and remachine...

    Which Engine Would You Choose?

351C heads on a 302 can be made to work well. The "secret" to using big heads with low displacement is to use a smaller cam that matches the combination. That is the main advantage to big heads in a performance build - the valve train is less expensive and will hold up longer. RBohm did a...

    Which Engine Would You Choose?

Since you are low on cash I say you should approach the build gradually. Buy one thing at a time and when you have everything then put it together. If your ultimate power goals are ~400-450 or less I would do a 347 with AFR 185 heads and complementary ancillaries in that car. That will give...

Engine #51 Cleveland Valve Springs, Can You Id These Springs?

My apologies in advance for posting advice that will cost more money. I recommend you pull the heads and take them to a machine shop complete. It's not just the spring itself that must match the cam, you really also want to make sure they are shimmed correctly. Also, if the heads still have...

    428 Cobra Jet Carb

Holley has a carb selector program. I think you should use that. Let me tell you in advance that Holley doesn't generally recommend mechanical secondaries for street cars unless they are super light (under 3100 lbs) with gearing over 3.73. I think vacuum secondary is a better way to go - the...

    First Post!

Congrats on the car! It's great that you have your dad to help you with your first Mustang project. Should be a lot of fun working with him on it. Welcome to the forum.

    Engine What Cam? 289

Someone else who knows more about tuning than I will jump in, I'm sure. I would have to use a wide band O2 sensor to set up the carb. I'm not sure how you know that it's lean vs. rich, etc. Reading plugs is not easy or straightforward at all IMO. As far as plugs 0.040" is not a bad number...

351 2v Weiand 7516 Intake Blowing Front And Rear Gaskets

The valley pan prevents oil from coking on the underside of the intake. Some people run them, some don't. They can be more of a pain to seal than not having a valley pan, from what I've heard. Some people even cut the areas that seal onto the heads off the valley pan and run a partial pan just...

Engine 1973 Mustang 351 2v Cleveland Carb Question

You can find 4V heads for a good price all the time. You're going to want to find a pair locally though, because shipping is a killer. 351C heads are heavy. If you get that far into a Cleveland some things to know are that the stock valves are notorious for dropping the heads off them. You...

Engine 1973 Mustang 351 2v Cleveland Carb Question

Clement is right that the right 4 barrel carb and intake can help wake up the 2V Cleveland. Some are better choices than others. If you post what the intake is someone can probably tell you whether that particular intake is a good choice on a 2V motor. Based on your description the motor...
