Okay I cant decide so I need help. 88GT vs 85GT

I hear ya. According to the odo there is about 13K on the car which means its rolled so its more like 90+k. Of course i have no idea if its the stock motor or not. I think instead of putting performance parts on a motor with some miles on it I will just rebuild a 351w :D

Thanks, after reading other posts it seems the stealth intake and the holley DP seems to be the way to go. Just a side question, can i remove the cam shaft without tearing down the entire front half of the motor? i would love to put a performance cam in it too.

Interior is whole. The seats have been swapped im guessing? It does have a cracked dashpad though but everything else seems to be there.

Noob: How do I tell if an engine needs a rebuild?

would there be much taper which fresh hatch marks? Im really just deciding to rebuild it and do it right so its not so much as important to see if the engine is worth slamming back in.

Noob: How do I tell if an engine needs a rebuild?

Yes I wanted to see if it was healthy on the bottom end and just bolt heads and a new cam into it and see what it would do. Now, I've resolve to rebuilding the engine myself at my own pace.. to save money and to experience actually rebuilding my own engine.

Thanks all for the help! Yes it was for sale at my local junkyard. The clutch is about toast but it starts right up and moves lol. Im already planning mods...intake and carb swap and exhaust.

Yes that was my origional goal. To get 300HP to the wheels and have fun with that while building a 351W to drop it when its complete. Would that require a cam swap or can I get 300 to the wheels with stock cam?

    CFI vs EFI?

CARB vs EFI? Hey guys about to buy a carb'd GT and had a few question questions: Does the carb'd version have EGR? Does it have the smog pump and those valves? Does the heads on the carb'd motor have the pipe in the back?

Noob: How do I tell if an engine needs a rebuild?

does the cross hatch mean the cylinder walls are still in good shape? I didnt have any compression issues out of the motor. the only reason i broke it down was to know for myself that it was a sound engine to play around with.

all parts are stock. I just removed the engine and popped the heads. The headgaskets, and intake manifold gaskets were still blue and read felpro.

I feel your frustration. I think the carb setup will be more in my budget than the efi and the 85 is actually a running driving car where mine is a basket case. Where I live there are plenty of mustangs in the junkyard so things like rear-ends, trans cross members for duals are easy to come by...

What's so different about the 85 besides the exhaust and rear end?

None taken. they both need work. The 88 seems more like the basket case to me and I thought putting a carb'd 351w in it would just be wicked. I dont see many four-eyed mustangs here in CA.

Here is the deal. I currently own a 88gt that did not run when i bought it and I have since removed the motor and started planning the motor build...when i came across a 85 GT for $1400. Here is the break down for both cars. 88GT: Purchased for $500 $500.00 back registration Needs small...
