    bored with the 408.....next idea!

sounds like a fun build eh?! :bang: I'm having cooling issues now with it the way it is, let alone with more cubes AND a turbo (i would need a large turbo for that, like a T76 or a T88) and that would be way more power than i can even use......safely anyhow! :D 11.49 and i need a cage and 5...

    bored with the 408.....next idea!

I have the 408 running pretty good now.......but......it's not really where my heart is. This winters' (sorry to say that word so soon) project will likely be a 302 roller motor , still E.F.I. with a single turbo, a 60mm hybred Holset or a Garrett 60-1 i have not decided yet. It will have a...

    the 408 lives!

yes, it's called an IAC. Everything works .....i've checked, my injectors are just too big for my EEC to control at idle.

    the 408 lives!

I'm having a hard time getting my idle to stay set. I'm thinking my Mustang 5 liter A9L computer and 42lb injectors aren't getting along :nonono: I'm taking a look at Megasquirt EFI with ignition control. Looks pretty cool.....and its way cheaper than any of the other aftermarket EFI untits!

    the 408 lives!

that will come......just have to tune it a bit first! I'm on holidays this week so i should be able to get it running proper (efi can be a bitch to tune with 42lb injectors on a stock eec) My headers are Hookers i believe, they are small but they'll do for now untill someone makes a nice set in...

    the 408 lives!

I made an error in my post, i used a 4.00 stroke crank...not a 4.100 stroke. It is a 408. It tacks up real fast (only have a 3.50 gear) it'll bust the street tires loose VERY easy. It's not a lumpy cam....loaps a bit maybe but not real nasty, as far as the vac.....not clue, have nothing that...

    the 408 lives!

longest rod i know of is 6.300 for a aftermarket block with a crank stroke of 4.250 i believe. You would be getting into some serious block clearancing. Stock block, i think you can go with a 6.250 rod and a 4.100 crank

do you have any idea how hard it is to stop a speeding II with stock wheels?

I too have 9 inch rotors and 11 inch drum rears, and i find it stops fine at the strip at 115 mph......i just wouldn't want to do a road course with them! :D I had a '89 Mark VII with stock brakes....and they were great!

    the 408 lives!

yes watch for rod/stroke ratio. Don't go anything past 427 or you'll have problems with skirt wear or breakage (more so the more your going to rev it) I used an Eagle crank (cast steel)4.100 stroke and its cheap ($239), and 40% stronger than a factory crank. I used a set of Eagle H beam rods i...

    Inertia anti car-b-que switch.

Good point, when i wired the 5 liter Mustang loom and computer (EEC) i also used the inertia switch in my Pinto. I don't want to be in a wreck and have my 340lph pump spraying fuel all over me or the car! If you have an electric pump USE AN ENERTIA SWITCH!

    the 408 lives!

thanks, i may do that a bit later on in the summer. here are some pictures. I joined the Pinto loom and the EFI mustang loom together to clean up the engine compartment a bit. I added some front brace bars from the firewall to the frame rail for some strength, cut out the inner fenders and...

    the 408 lives!

I hear ya! It'll be interesting to see what it runs with no other modifications at all to the engine, i'm running heavily ported Windsor Sr. heads with the same Comp cam from last years 357 build. The only difference is it has 51 cubic inches more and 42lb injectors (24's last year) Later in the...

the 408 lives! pictures added! Hey all, It lives, the 408 roared to life tonight! It turned over about 4 times, then the battery died (should have put the charger on) I put in on a fast charge, got in about 5 minutes later and it fired right up! No leaks, no "strange engine noises" , my only...
