    Early Style 289 Timing Cover

I think you can use either early or late style 289 timing cover. It depends on the water pump. Does yours have a backing plate? Backing plate = late style 289. Early 289,260 waterpumps had a different impeller that was open. This is the later 289 and 302 water pump with backing plate...

Th. The D1 and D7 mean 1971 and 1977. They would be the larger 164 tooth flywheel and bellhousing. They can make headers rub sometimes. You can use the flywheel and get an aluminum 164 bell C5AA-6394-B You will shave several pounds off the iron bell. I have one in great shape if you want...

    Old 302 vs New 302

I thought they stopped making the 5.0 in 1995 and came out with the 4.6 in 1996? I like the new engines and the older. Has you 70 302 been rebuilt? I built a 70 302 block and put my 66 289 heads and externals on it. Its basically a little stroker. It is great for my budget. Those late...

    Matching numbers?

Matching Numbers means the car has the original equipment from the factory. Many cars have a specific engine and tranny # recorded with the VIN. In an early Mustang this cannot be verified as the records were destroyed. So we use the casting # and the date code to see if they "match" the time...

    engine refreshening help

You looking at around $100 for a bore and cam bearings. If you dont need to bore and only need to hone, rent the tool free at Autozone. But you will need a ball hone to put the crosshatch back on the cylinders. Buying one of those is around $50. You can get a ring compressor free at...

t-5 conversion, cause lord knows we need another thread on this

Im sure you know that, whatever you do get the flywheel that matches your balancer. The 1968 would have 28 oz flywheel. The T-5 lines up with the original shifter hole perfect when using the spacer plate. If no plate, I would have to cut about 1" towards the dash. Then you have to reach...

t-5 conversion, cause lord knows we need another thread on this

IMHO, option 2 is the easiest. Like posted above, you can do it in a couple hours. I prefer the original Z-bar because the cable kits route all over the engine compartment. 1. You will need a different clutch as its hydraulic, and the fulcrum is backwards(I think) 2. May need the drive...

I think you either put some gas mixed with 2 cycle oil or water. Either way get some gas cleaner like Lucas but Ive heard not to use STP.
