67-68 strut rod PU bushing OE torque

Every set of strut rod bushings I used have had a metal sleeve running through the middle. The big washers hit the sleeve before the rubber is totally compressed so you are really torquing against the sleeve. IIRC mine were about 75 ft/lbs.

351c cam selection flat or roller? please look

Two big advantages to roller cams. (1) Can run a more aggressive profile. Lots of lift without necessarily a lot of duration. I have a 230/236 solid roller cam with .590 lift and 109 LSA. Idles great, lots of low end and pulls to 6500 no problem. (2) Don't have to worry about wiping a cam...

    Couple Questions on Classic Mustangs

Here's an easy way to keep a stock motor mount from breaking. Drill a hole all the way through it. Put a bolt with a self locking nut through the hole. Leave about 1/8" of slack in the nut. This allows the mount to give but even if the rubber breaks it can't come apart.

    conflicted...take two...

You can solve the exhaust issue with the right set of conversion headers. FPA makes some but they are not cheap. The tranny will not work - the tailshaft is different and thus the tranny is the wrong length. Plus the accessory brackets may not work either. IMO this swap is not worth the...

Your gas cap vent may be blocked. The next time it happens remove the gas cap and see if there is a vacuum in the tank.

    Suspension prob

Did you put 1968 spindles on it? Or something from another car? If the spindle geometry is wrong you can get "bump steer" which can cause the condition you describe.

    Timing 347?

Once you deviate from stock throw the factory recommendations out the window. Every engine is different. Initial advance, vacuum advance, total mechanical, rate at which mechinical comes in - they all have to be experimented with to find the optimum. Usually a bigger cam likes more initial...

    Rear End Lift

Air shocks are about the worst thing you can do. Shackles are not a lot better. If you look at at a car with long shackles you will notice that the back half of the leaf spring is bent over backward. That is because in lifting the body higher a larger percentage of the car weight is being...

    Old School Or Electric Fan

I kept it simple and put on a 6-blade fixed blade (not flex blade) aluminum Flex-a-lite fan. $30 from Summit, rated to 8000 rpm. I realize I am probably giving up 5 hp at 6000 rpm but I have power to spare. My problem is keeping the car cool in Houston. This fan moves a LOT of air, even at...

    Alternator Stamping

An early Mustang alternator will have a rounded mounting ear (like the picture above) and the word Autolite cast into the back of it plus the inkstamp. The squared off mounting ear is a dead giveaway but the Autolite casting not so noticeable once installed.

    Running Rough, won't idle...all of a sudden

It is a highly flammable substance so when the motor sucks it in the engine speed picks up. Same thing with propane out of an unlit propane torch.

Anybody have Edelbrock 500 cfm carb?

I had a 500 on the 289 HiPo in my 67 GT350 and I loved it. It would pull hard to 5500 no problem and much better drivability than the larger Holley I had on it. Plus it was easy to tune and maintenance free (no leaks).

how to attach '68 gas filler neck

I put on an NOS tail panel and I had to slightly open up the hole to get the filler neck through. Getting the connecting hose on was the hard part.

Aluminum Heads on a 351W questions

If you don't want to change the cam then you do not want either the 185 or the 205. You will not be able to take advantage of their additional flow capability. It really does not make a lot of sense to go to any better flowing head (over what you currently have) with an RV cam that runs out...

In need of advice purchasing motor

You have to assume there is a 50/50 chance that the motor will not be usable as is. One mistake in the rebuild and the motor is junk. Or he might have used mismatched parts (cam vs. heads vs. intake vs. carb, etc, etc.) and it will perform poorly. Or he may be lying to you about the rebuild...

    1969 Power steering very loose

Check the front end alignment. If you have little or no positive caster the car will wander all over the place. You want at least 2.5-3 degrees.

ram air with dearborn hood scoop

A 68-73 ram air air cleaner is not cheap. Even the 71-73 fiberglass repros are going to cost you at least $500 (and probably more). Figure $1000 for the 68-70 setup. Just the seal alone is $125 if you can find one. They are mostly for looks as you are not going to get any ram effect from...
