    1971-1973 mustang builds

Stripe them with the Boss 351 stripes. Ram air hood with the Mach One blackout. Blackout the lower body. 15" (at least) wheels - I favor Magnum 500s. These cars look like whales if they are all one color. They need the stripes and blackout to break them up. A chin spoiler helps also...

    Interesting Starting Issues, please help

If you choke it too much it will not run properly. If it does not have enough choke it will not run properly when cold. I get mine started with the (manual) choke off and a lot of accelerator pumping. Once I get it started I adjust the choke until I get it in the optimal place. As the...

    Upper Control Arm Lube

This is not unusual. Some people cut grooves into the shaft so that the grease can flow into the arm bushings. This requires disassembling the arm. IMO if they are not squeaking then I would not worry about it.

    AFR 165

All the elements of the motor need to work optimally. With those heads normally I would recommend a cam that makes power to about 6500 but I don't know if your short block can take it. Select a cam that makes power from about 2000 - 6000 and you should be OK. Probably something in the...

    302 to 351 conversion question

Stroke the 302 to a 347. It will make just as much power as a 351W. And change those gears to something in the 3.75 range. You will be shocked at how much harder it will launch. With the T5 overdrive it will still be fine on the highway.

    Vin# Problems

Whatever you do DON'T GET THE DMV INVOLVED. They will be confused and God knows what will happen after that. Maybe get the car impounded. Get a set of stamps off ebay (about $50) and stamp the number into the inner fender where it is supposed to be. Some people will protest the "legality"...

    Pertronix info

I would get a III. It has three advantages: (1) built in rev limiter, (2) no more magnetic ring - it reads the "bumps" on the dizzy shaft, (3) it replaces the entire base plate instead of reusing the old one. IMO everybody should be running a rev limiter. Cheap, cheap, cheap insurance...

    Shifter Linkage

You must have the proper shift lever AND rod to make this work. The shift lever is installed when the tranny is apart. The rod is being reproduced but AFAIK the shift lever is not and you have to find a used one.

    Armrest mounts

I just drilled the holes and screwed them in.

    Exhaust suggestions

3" is overkill. 2.5" is plenty even for a 500 hp motor and it will make it a LOT easier to get over the rear axle. In fact the 2.5" Flowmaster tailpipes ($100 from Summit) are mandrel bent and fit very well. X-pipes tend to make more torque than an H and are quieter also.

    good suspension setup

Personally I prefer a fairly stock suspension (good quality parts) with really, really good shocks - namely Konis. The Konis are adjustable. You can make them stiff for ultimate handling or soft for a better ride. IMO too many people go for all out handling with ultra stiff lowered...

    Exhaust Syst. Suggestions: 302/4spd Toploader?

I have 289 HiPo exhaust manifolds on my 67 GT350. I bought the dual exhaust system sold by NPD for this application. It bolted right on and fit very well. You will have to do a LOT of test fitting (especially on the tailpipes) before you get it lined up properly. I put never-seize on all the...

    Undercoating?

You definitely want some under the bottoms of the front fenders because they will prevent rock dings in the fenders.

    1967 Mustang Gas Tank Replacement

Look at NPDs catalog. It mentions the "better reproduction". If you buy a kit I don't know how you would tell which one is with it.

    8 inch axle seal replacement

What you are referring to is the axle bearing, not the axle seal. The axle seal is a metal ring with a rubber inner circle that is pressed into the end of the housing. The axle goes through it. The axle is removed by taking loose the four bolts that go through the housing and the brake...

    Tear down help?

The wipers can be difficult to remove. You need to depress the tab while pulling up on both sides equally. I use a claw hammer (on a towel) to pull up the side opposite the wiper arm.

    1967 Mustang Gas Tank Replacement

Personally I would buy the tank and the sending unit separately. There are a couple of grades of sending units and the cheaper ones are worthless. You don't know which one you would get with the kit.

Finally got some dyno numbers wanted some input.

Hydraulic rollers tend to start floating right around 6000 because the valve train is so heavy and you can't run as much spring pressure with them as a solid roller. As a general rule of thumb if you want to rev beyond that you should go with a solid roller. I also don't like the fact that...

convert 2 peice rear main to 1 piece?

I tried two black neoprene seals and still had a bad leak. Then I used the upgraded Felpro 2-piece seal. It is kind of a reddish color. It solved my problem.

    I Got The Thing Apart!

There is a way to tell. Clean the back of the motor squeaky clean. Install the flywheel and the bell housing only (no clutch). Install the starter. Remove the fan and the shroud from the front of the engine (this keeps the fan from hitting the radiator if the back of the motor is too low)...
