    BLEW REAR YESTERDAY....how to rebuild

I launch mine at 6500 with the same setup (except Moser) and full slicks. You won't break those parts. Your weak point now is the axle tubes.

    Trak loc Help needed

I use the alternating stacking also like you said. Works good.

    Trak loc Help needed

The replacement clutches are probably just a little thicker than stock. Or if you soaked your friction plates, that's probably the reason. They do swell a little bit after you soak them. Just cut back on the shim till it'll go together. I shim them as tight as I can get them while still being...

    BLEW REAR YESTERDAY....how to rebuild

The big thing is the axles. The 8.8 is a heck of a rear with just axles. Even a good set of aftermarket 28 spline axles will really improve the strength. The stock carriers are tough as nails. I'd trust a 28 spline carrier (with aftermarket axles) on an 11 second car. Beyond that I'd upgrade to...

lifters wont depress when adjusting valve.

It is normal. They will bleed down and the valves will close.

    I'm starting to give up....

The base timing really doesn't effect much. You want as much initial advance as you can run without having starting trouble. I run my timing locked out at 36 degrees with a MSD starter saver that only retards timing only if the rpms fall below 500 for cranking the engine over. Zero low speed...

    I'm starting to give up....

Probably accurate. Lower vacuum readings at idle can come from alot of different things. Ignition timing, valve timing, worn rings, leaky valves, vacuum leaks.......

    I'm starting to give up....

And make sure you set it for total timing, not initial. When you get it running properly it'll probably lose the lopey idle but should run much better.

    S&W Racecars vs. Chassis Engineering?

Ditto. I have the Comp. Eng. in my car. Took lots of notching, bending, cutting. Heard the S&Ws fit a lot better.

    I'm starting to give up....

I agree. 15 seems a little low for a stock cam.

    I'm starting to give up....

Try what I told you with the timing. It will rule out any problems there. If it's still no good try spraying carb cleaner around your intake ports and carb base and see if the idle picks up. It will find a vacuum leak real fast. EDIT: What are your cam specs?

    I'm starting to give up....

Starting has nothing to do with the max timing. Try this: Unhook the vacuum advance and plug off the vacuum line. Start the engine and rev it while checking it with the timing light. Loosen the distributor hold down slightly so you can turn the dizzy. Now slowly start raising the rpms and...

    I'm starting to give up....

Start with timing. Confirm the timing is advancing properly. It sounds like you may have it retarded. Don't tune for initial advance, tune for total. You want about 34 to 36 degrees total and you want it early in the rpm range. About 2400 rpms if you can. Wherever the base timing falls,it falls.

    What rings and bearings?

I agree. I've always had good luck with Sealed Power rings and Federal Mogul bearings.

    coilovers

The QA-1 adjustables work really well but they're pretty pricey. The Strange adjustables work good. They just weigh more than the QA-1s. They're quite a bit cheaper though. I run the old Lakewood 90/10s on mine. The only thing is you can't tighten them up for good track conditions which means...

Can I use a steel distributor gear on my roller cam?

Cast gear is for a flat tappet cam. Steel gear for a hydro-roller. Bronze is only for a solid-roller cam. So you have the right one for your B cam.

    stupid question about fiberglas hood

The Cervini hoods are definately top quality. It takes very little prep work to paint them in comparison to others I've seen. The downside is they're heavy compared to alot of the others.

    ALIGNING THE FRONT END...MYSELF?

I've always aligned my own cars. I use string lines to set the toe and an anglefinder to set the camber. Never chewed tires or anything.

    MSD distributor

I should've explained a little better. The shaft doesn't need to be perfectly centered but I've installed distributors before where the shafts were missing the clips and layed totally to one side when trying to install. In that case the taper won't start into the bottom of the dist. shaft. When...

    Need clutch recommendations

SPEC II or III (if you like a little more aggressive engagement) would be perfect for you. A little more expensive but definately worth it. They're clutches are tough.
