Chrylser has made my decision simple

The GT500 comes with an upgraded version of the tried & true T56 6-speed, the same damn tranny that Chrysler plunks in its Viper. AND.. None of the big 3, to my knowledge, build their own manual gearboxes anyhow. They all outsourse to Tremec/BW, ZF, and so-forth. They do build their own...

What are you paying for a new GT500?

Huh??? I ordered mine, to my own specification, and I'm paying MSRP, not a penny more. When it's in, I'll have to drive 7 hours to retrieve it. No biggie. If others who really wanted a car would spread their search out across state lines if-necessary, they'd find a decent deal too...

    GT-500 = Boat

    1. The weight of the GT500 is not 4,100 pounds, unless you're talking about the convertible... 2. No, the 1st gen Lightning's frame was not stamped out of heavier steel (can you imagine the tremendous cost that would incur just for that small amount of trucks?? Somebody doesn't know about how...

Chrylser has made my decision simple

LOL!!!! In the articles I've read, the factory is forecasting the new Challenger to be in excess of 4,200 lbs.. You think the GT500 is a pig?? The porky Challenger will soak up so much of that 425h.p. that you'll LAMENT that it didn't come with a blower... Besides, anyone who thinks that the...

The new owner of an '03 Cobra

Well, simple rule of thumb is: 1. Whatever comes out of a salesperson's mouth, should immediately be swabbed out of your ears with a Q-tip and alcohol. 2. I don't think anybody, including Carroll himself, deludes themselves into believing the new GT500 was a "hands-on" project. It was...

which will be faster 07 shelby GT500, or 06 saleen SC, both stock.

It's not light, that's for sure..... But neither was my '00 Lightning, and with a few cheap and easy mods, it was an absolute menace... Remember, the Terminator didn't really build its street cred by it's bone stock numbers. It built it by how ungodly fast it could be made with such little...

Exactly... There's alot of fudge factor going on in real-world racing.. But by the numbers, and the trap speeds I've seen (60-foot doesn't affect trap speed much), there's more potential in the GT500.. I saw a fumbling bumbling C6 Z06 owner who couldn't break into the 12's at my local...

    GT 500 Parts?

I'm certain they will... 1968 and up Shelby parts carried Ford #'s and went through the Ford system (example: S8MS-13449-A was a taillight door, Ford simply used the letter "S" to begin the Shelby-specific numbers. I don't know if they'll do that with the new cars, considering that the part...

which will be faster 07 shelby GT500, or 06 saleen SC, both stock.

O.K., now we're playing with some slightly sloppy data. * Curb weight of a stock 2006 GT (no blower) is 3483-3518, assuming it's a manual, ranging due to options. Adding the blower kit depends on the kit, intercooler or none, etc.. Alot of options there. But....who cares, this thread's...

I know that in 1997, the S351 that Saleen gave to magazines for testing had an upgraded blower, and a completely different blower intake arrangement (better breathing, ran a huge elbow and hose through the inner apron), than production S351's. I know that because I saw the car. So excuse me if...

    sales manager laughed

Rich people typically didn't get rich by being idiotic and careless with money. There is a SMALL cadre of rich people who are flamboyant in their spending... I agree with others, those dolts will be sorted out early in the game, and prices will quickly level-out.

    A Little Disapointed

I disagree to a point. That was 1965, not today. In '65 most luxury cars in the northern U.S. were still being ordered sans air conditioning. If today's Shelby were a totally decontented purpose-built stripper, they'd sell about 300-500 units per year. Proof of that level of demand is easy...

O.K., where are these 390-410 bone-stock chassis dyno results?? Gotta scan???............ And 0-60 times for high-power Mustangs are purely traction-determined, it's a joke to compare 0-60 times on cars that you can't lay full-throttle on until you're well on your way through 2nd gear. My...

Not much difference in weight, not enough to nullify the HUGE horsepower disparity.. Not to mention the fact that Saleen has always historically published horsepower figures that seemingly never jive with actual performance tests. I'd bet that the GT500 leaves the Saleen in the dust.

    Pricing received for my GT500

I got final pricing on my coupe back on 6/12/06... I'm too lazy to type it all out, so I'll just run down the specs and give you the bottom-line T88 Shelby Coupe Torch Red Gas Guzzler Tax (hey, at least it's not the $3,000 it used to be back when I bought my '95 R-Model..) Top stripe...

Can't believe all the crying about the price!

I see it time and time again. A foolish and greedy dealer turning away a HUGE offer (anybody dumb enough to pay $10K over MSRP should cause a dealer's sales manager to dance for joy, and sell the car..) only to put the car on eBay, and ....... do worse than the cash offer they had, so they try...

Can't believe all the crying about the price!

Very true. It's easy to get on forums like these, and get the illusion/impression that the entire world is frothing at the mouth for cars like these... But big-picture, these are niche-vehicles, and I'm glad that Ford is still seeing the value of building these halo-type cars, that represent...

This just in.... Evan Smith runs a 12.25 @ 117.18

Huh?? Since when were the factories expected to mass-produce performance cars that are faster than tuner-built cars, yet still pass strict emission standards, be durable enough to be able to cover them with a good warranty even though lead-footed idiots will be buying them, have longevity...

    SHELBY PRICE LIST IS HERE!

O.K., you're right of course, but you're really picking the fly **** out of the pepper here, I was brushing in broad strokes. I know my history just fine. '93 Cobra R-model final assembly was Creative Industries in Brighton. '87 Buick GNX's were put together at American Sunroof Company...

    SHELBY PRICE LIST IS HERE!

Exactly, they are making a TON of these, which is why all this hang-wringing and weeping and wailing is so ridiculous... Yes, some will collect and not drive, some will collect and drive occassionally for pleasure, and others will drive the wheels off of them. There will be PLENTY for EVERYBODY...
