how to know when valve is closed for rockers, to tighten them down

The pushrods will be down more in the block when the valves are closed

I got some 68 302 heads will they work?

Actually, I believe that there were 2 different 302 heads available in 1968. If the casting number is c8ZF it should have 49.5 cc combustion chambers, and if they're c8AF they would be 59.9 cc's.

Looks like an HO....must be an HO?...

As he said, that would not be a roller cam block from the factory. It also would have the e5 heads on it which are not as good as the e7's.

    Stroke it?

Actually, a 306 would be a stock stroke and a .030 overbore. You wouldn't need a new computer, with an AFPR you could get it tuned in pretty close.

    explorer intake?

Essentially they are the same intake manifold as the Cobra/GT40. People can get a good price for what is basically the same intake so they get the Explorer intake.

E303 cam not getting proper lift.

As he said, you won't have the advertised lift at the end of the pushrod because the lift that they advertise is after you include the rocker arm ratio.

whats kind of heads will interchange with my 351m

Get the 2bbl cleveland heads, they'll work a lot better than the 4bbl's, especially for a truck. You could also look at getting some aussie 2bbl heads, they have a closed chamber and would bump up the compression a little bit.

will a 351 bolt to my tranny?

It will work just fine as he said. Bellhousing patterns are the same on both motors.

    I just got a motor.

You could reuse the old crank, rods and pistons if there wasn't any damage done to them. Or else you could use the Lincoln crankshaft (it's the same as your old one) and use your rods and pistons.

will this engine Mount right up??

The explorer/mountaineer engines do have the HO firing order. FYI they switched the heads in the middle of 97 from the regular GT40's to the GT40p's.

    Help with a 460 swap into 90LX.

I don't know if you can put a t5 behind a 460, but it wouldn't be a wise decision even if you can. I don't think a t5 would last very long with the torque of a big block.

    I just got a motor.

The crankshaft should be the same regardless of it being a HO or non-HO. All mark 7's used e7's and were HO's starting in 1988. The 1987 mark 7 LSC's had a HO engine that was essentially a leftover 1986 mustang engine, 200 hp with e6's. 1987 Bill Blass Mark 7's and all Town Car's have the...

    Temperature rises quickly after accelarating...

Is your car detonating at all? My car did the same thing when I had the timing advanced a little too far. Pulled a little timing out and now the temp stays normal when I get on it.

    I just got a motor.

If the motor is in a Town Car, it's not an HO. If it's in a mark 7, it is an HO. I believe that the crankshafts are the same.

    2000 merc

My parents have a Mercury Mystique with the 2.5 v6 in it and it goes pretty good. It also has 178,000 miles on it and runs like brand new, no oil burning or leaking. It should be a reliable car, but i'm not sure about any mods. SVT contours were 200 hp FWIW.

    I just got a motor.

Actually the 1987 mark 7 had 2 motor options, the non ho 302 that was 150 horsepower and the ho which was 200 hp and used e6 heads. All mark 7's after 1987 used the same HO motors as the mustangs, and they all had e7's.

    How Big?

Actually, it would be a 308. And nobody will hold it against you.

Any difference between HO and non-HO shortblocks?

I know a guy who put a 5.0 HO out of an 87 mustang into his 89 f150 and used the factory computer and injectors (from the truck) and it runs just fine. I believe the f150 uses batch injection, where all injectors on one bank fire at once then the other and so on. Anyway, his truck runs just...

Any difference between HO and non-HO shortblocks?

I believe that all regular f150's/bronco's were speed density until somewhere around 1995-96, except for the lightning, which was mass-air. The truck should run just fine however, even with speed density. All you should have to do is hook up the factory wiring to the new motor and change the...

Any difference between HO and non-HO shortblocks?

I don't believe that you would have to change over the harness if you keep the HO cam in there. You would just have to change the firing order to the HO firing order. I'm going to be swapping in a HO into my 1990 f150 pretty soon, I've talked to a couple people who have done it and they loved...
