    opinions for mustang convertible system

I guess I have no problems with w3's. I have some "old-school" w3's (the very first pair available in the Midwest)

Nothing is inherently wrong with the w3's, they just don't have the kind of frequency response needed for my suggestion. The w7 would do nicely, but they're just too big to fit in a vert. The w3's are very nice sounding woofers, but they don't have the "bloated" low-end response needed for top...

    New System Advice

Go ahead and get the Eclipse amps with the ICE circuit. They're tiny and have good output. Skip the rear speakers and invest in better front components. Then use the Eclipse 8200 12" sub. That is a TCSounds built monster that sounds FANTASTIC in 1 cubic foot. Beastly.

Those ID's will do it. You can also look into SoundSplinter, Ascendant Audio, and the Oz Matrix, possibly the Fi Q or SSD series. The highs, I'd honestly build my own components from Madisound. I like Vifa, Scan Speak, and Peerless.

New car stereo - Pioneer AVIC-Z1

Man, you had me salivating thinking I could 4x my power by switching my wiring. They do OK at 65 RMS.

New car stereo - Pioneer AVIC-Z1

Aren't they dual-2? I'm almost sure of it. I rewired mine for what I assumed was a 4 ohm load, but I don't have my DMM anymore. Could someone measure one for me?

    Attempt to Identify Rims

Yep, and for God's sakes, don't e-mail them about getting some made differently than the norm. They talk to you like you've pissed on one of their children.

For the 10's, what amps are you using, and what is your budget? This will help incredibly. You'll need something with STRONG lowend, as it tends to disappear with the top down. Infinity Perfects and JL w3's do NOT count. The comp/tweet set will work great in that configuration. It isn't...

    Wiring Diagram/Colors

That's standard if looking at aftermarket radios/harnesses. It isn't always the case in the car. The power/illumination are generally correct. Speakers can be damned near any color the manufacturer has lying around.

MACH 460 Speaker Replacement Question ...

Hell, for that you could've gotten some of the Pioneers from WalMart. Better value. It's ok, next time you know.

    About the stock head unit

You can tap into the pre-amp level signal going to the Shaker 500 amps. Then, you wouldn't even need to buy an adapter.

    Tire/Rim purchasing - questions

MACH 460 Speaker Replacement Question ...

DO you want to replace it with the same speaker, or with a pair of new speakers? I recommend keeping both sides matching. It's VERY easy to do, especially if you put a new Ford speaker in it, or you can even get a plug adapter so you don't even have to cut wires. How do you want to do it, and...

    Bypassed the Shaker 1000 amps

I am using a 90hz cutoff, but my upper range drivers are not factory. The door woofers run clean past 200, though. I just wish they'd handle a bit more power down low. They don't care for anything below 32hz at all, and I only have them getting roughly 60 RMS.

    Bypassed the Shaker 1000 amps

Very similar to my current system. I don't care for the factory door woofer, but I haven't found anything else to fit without hacking. I have some Kicker SSMB8's coming, and a pair of DEI Studio 8 Neos. Maybe they'll work.

    Tweeter question

The factory wiring will handle a lot more wattage than you're giving credit. But, sometimes it's actually easier to run new wire.

    widest 17 inch tire

uhhhh, the stock rims will only safely hold a 255. on the front, 10 inch rims with a 285 is the widest I've seen, and the rear I've seen an 11.5" rim, but the widest tire so far is a 325. I hope to do a 345 on the rear with a 12" wheel, if I can win a lotto or something to pay for the wheels.

    Replacing Shaker 500 head unit

Easily done. The harness for output is the one on the TOP of the factory amps. Each amp is held in with 3 8mm nuts on threaded studs. You'll need deep-well sockets or a tiny wrench and a lot of patience. If you're looking straight on at the plugs (with the 2 "extra" holes at the top, they go...

    Replacing Shaker 500 head unit

Yep, Metra makes the harnesses as 2 seoarate parts, or together in a kit for amplifier integration. It was a rather simple install using the factory amps, just remember to plug those damned A/C controls back in (did it TWICE)
