    2.25 or 2.5 inch exhaust.

If you want to keep a 289 engine bone stock it doesn't need anything if you want it to remain slow:D But yes it will help it by replacing the 2" kinked full exhaust with 2.5" mandrel bent pipes. We do these modifications for performance. If you do not want performance and want to remain slow...

    2.25 or 2.5 inch exhaust.

If the engine was a little lean to start with having the full exhaust on then the gains would not be huge going to open. Did you jet up the carb once you went to open exhaust to take advantage of the better flow? Were you using good long tube headers with 3" collectors? Did you use the...

    2.25 or 2.5 inch exhaust.

Undoubetedly 2.5". Do not crutch a V8 with any less.

    Analyzing Your Timeslip

Like others are saying, your 60 foot time could definitely be better. Just bringing that down to 2.0 seconds will get you into the low 14's. What kind of tires are you using? More gear behind that C4 (3.55-3.80) will do wonders. But I would start with good tires to optimize what you have. With...

    does good traction = $$$$?

The thread starter does not need a Detroit EZ Locker:notnice: A lunchbox locker like this is not strong enough to handle the power of a 427. He needs the strength of a "carrier" locker like the Detroit Soft Locker. The full carrier locker is MUCH better on the road than any lunchbox locker too...

    does good traction = $$$$?

I definitely recommend a Detroit locker for a street car. I have had one in the 66 Mustang since 2003. Couldn't be happier with it. It's quiet and drives exactly the same as before. I also have had one in my daily driven Jeep Wrangler since 2000. Lockers are more noticeable behind manual...

    does good traction = $$$$?

+2 Absolutely no issues at all with my Detroit locker. I think some people that comment on them have not used them. I can not even tell it is there until it does a 2 wheel burnout every time.:nice:

66 mustang, freshly installed C4 wont start!

I once put my C4 transmission back in my car and it sounded the same as you are describing. Basically just a click when I turned the key. Well, I have a late model mini starter with 2 wires and didn't notice that the small wire had pulled off during installation. Slipped wire back on and started...

new 331 build need some help with cam selection.

My car is a street/strip car and every pass I make at the strip it sees 6500 rpm. If I had a 331 stroker sitting in a Dart block I would not crutch it with a hydraulic flat tappet cam. Solid lifter cams will definitely shine in the 6000 rpm and up range. There is huge power to be had in the...

new 331 build need some help with cam selection.

If you want to do your engine a favor just remember that a solid roller will always be the HP champion and the hydraulic flat tappet will always be the low man on the scrotum pole. Of course the other 2 choices fall in between these 2 and both can make great power IF you make the right choice.

new 331 build need some help with cam selection.

I have a very similarly built 347 in my '66 Coupe (AFR185's, Vic Jr intake, 750 carb, 3.55 gears) and I went with a Cam Research solid flat tappet cam. At the time I didn't want to change valve springs/retainers/etc. so I just had them make it to work with my springs. So I kept lift under .550...

Aluminum Master Cylinder - Manual Disks?

I have Wilwood 4 wheel discs on my '66 and run the Ford D9AZ-2140-A master cylinder. It is all aluminum (no plastic) so it looks good in the engine compartment, has a 1" bore, and is much lighter than the big cast iron ones.

Ran a new best this weekend!

I have read that Demons are usually lean right out of the box. Joe Sherman always goes up 4-6 jet sizes on Demons before making a dyno run. One of these days I'm actually gonna change jets at the strip to see how the car responds instead of just guessing.:D Hell, I may even toy with timing to...

Ran a new best this weekend!

Brianj5600: Thanks! I hear that question a lot since Ken Herring asked me that on Pass Time!! :D Coolblue65: I went up 3 sizes front and rear on the Demon 750. So 79's in front and 87's in the rear. I wish I would have bumped up 2 sizes in the cool air this past weekend to see how it would...

Ran a new best this weekend!

Thanks! Mike66: I am running a C4 auto. All I have done to it is added a Transgo shift kit and 9.5" converter. Still using the stock shifter. In fact, my interior looks stock with the exception of small tachometer on steering column and oil and water gauges under the dash. It does feel...

Ran a new best this weekend!

My little '66 was running strong through the 1/8 mile at Friday's Test and Tune but laid down on the top end on all 3 runs. The 2nd run it acted as though it was out of gas at about the 1000 ft mark so I let out and the power immediately came back so I got back on the throttle only for it to die...

Went to the strip today...Good & Bad news

Way to dip into the 12's! It's always a plus when you beat your previous best. 2.0 second 60's are way slow for a 12.7 et. Sounds like you need to launch much harder. Well, when you get a driveshaft that will hold up.:nice: That sux about the driveshaft. Nothing should ever break with over...
