Bad Gas Mileage for N/A 2.3

It should be the 15.7 gallon tank. With an automatic, you get the 3.73 rear gearing so it will rev higher and consume more gas than the T5 5 speed setup (it has 3.55 gears) especially above 65mph. Your gas mileage isn't that off though. Maybe give it a tune up, new air filter and new oxygen...

A few minor issues i want to fix

The ONLY way I have ever gotten a valve cover gasket on a 2.3L to totally seal (my PCV system is fully functional) is to use a Motorcraft rubber gasket. I clean and degrease the head and valve cover mating surfaces, then apply a thin smearing of non-hardening gasket sealer to the valve cover...

    Spark Plug Wires

I've heard a few people say the OEM Motorcraft or Autolite plug wires work the best. I've had Autolites on my capri for about 5 years and they seem to work very well. Go with whatever has a good warranty though.

    Quick Question

Looks to be threaded into a lower intake runner. I would say it's the knock sensor. A lot of people unplug those.

    90 convert update

Could have had air bubbles floating past the coolant sensor which would make the sensor read falsely. The computer would pick up on it and throw a code. Long shot, but it's possible.

    carb upgrade possible?

Well, I suggested the MSD setup because it makes installation easier and I know it will work prefectly. You can go the duraspark box route, but you will have to basically fab a harness to connect in to your factory harness ends and you will need a ballast resistor. The MSD stuff can be had from...

    carb upgrade possible?

It won't be super cheap, but it will make the car a little easier to tune. Yes, you will need the whole air cleaner- lid, bottom, and black tube to the fender. No, you don't need the actual intake- just the egr spacer below the carb and the carb. Make sure you get the throttle bracket that bolts...

    90 convert update

Radiator prices are going sky high. Even at the junkyards. The price for copper and brass and aluminum is really high so anywhere you go, you'll be shelling out the big bucks. I got a cheap aluminum radiator for my 88 at NAPA a few months ago for around 200. Good copper core ones can go upwards...

    carb upgrade possible?

Yes you can! I just did exactly what you are thinking about. I converted my 86 capri 2.3L to the early 2 barrel carb setup. If you need a list of what to get off the car and how to put it all together, I can help you out. It's fairly easy. What was the year of the car in the junkyard? Basically...

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

Very likely. Resistance causes heat. There may have been a short somewhere too. Monitor the system for a while though just to make sure the problem is corrected.

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

Rereading your post, I would almost suspect yoour fan motor is bad. That would definitly cause high current draw. If it was pulling that much power (over 30amps) and barely moved, I'd say the motor is shot. If you can, substitue a known good one and see what that does.

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

Sounds like something isn't quite right there. I just wired mine up this morning for a manual switch. Just splice the yellow-with-red-stripe wire and install a switched ground coming off that. You can access that wire at the fan cotroller (under the dash to the left of the steering column). Then...

    wont rev past 3800rpm... help!?!

That's not cool. Will insurance help at all? Anyways, about your issues with the power loss, what is your fuel pressure? I have heard of the turbo cars having either a faulty pump, tank hose, or regulator and dying after it gets much past idle.

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

That may be it. I would just use a 15 amp fuse to start. If it pops, go to a 20 amp. If it still pops, I would check your wiring. I would say a 15 would be fine though.

    Auto Trans Help

Cool. I get up that way fairly often. I went to Penn College in Williamsport and my family used to have a cabin in Elk Township up there. What town are you in?

    Auto Trans Help

Yea, sorry I can't be of more help. Auto transmissions are complex beasts. I'm waiting for either of mine to grenade on me. The capri has 217,770 miles on it and it's the origonal C3 automatic. The 88 stang has 75K and a shift kit and fluid cooler so that one should be ok. Maybe it's time to put...

    Auto Trans Help

Basically any transmission problem like that would require accurate diagnosis, and then opening it up to fix the problem. I really wouldn't venture into automatic transmission repair. Your best bet would be to get it to a transmission shop and have them take care of it. I would have them install...

    Auto Trans Help

Almost sounds like the parking latch inside it is stuck or something. If it were simply losing drive and the motor spins up, I'd say it's low on fluid or a bad converter, pump, or bands. But if it just stops and get stuck, really the only thing that could hold it securely internally on it would...

    Auto Trans Help

Just one idea, but it could be the converter clutch is locking up on you. I think that would cause a similar issue. Does the engine stall when it stops moving?

2.3 daily driver, fan won't come on??

If the switch has the same dimensions and threads, I would imagine you can use it. I think that's one of those standard parts Ford used for ages. Having your fan running all the time probably isn't the best idea. I would wire a switch up under the dash to control your fan. All you would need to...
