understanding timing - someone set it straight

I think the issue is with rotor and cap positioning, not that anything is moving. You're thinking of it too much in terms of rotor position, when it is easier to be thinking of it in terms of cap position. Instead of thinking of it as the rotor turning counter-clockwise, think of it as the cap...

    edelbrock or wiend (sp)

The stealth is an awesome intake! I got an edlebrock air-gap with the 347 I bought from a guy, and I used it but only because it looks cooler. For strictly performance, I'd probably go with the stealth.

    GT 40 Head conversion

You're installing on a 302, so there is no need to drill out the head bolt holes.

    306 with 13:1 compression, few ?'s

Not a daily driver engine..... How can he be sure it's 13:1 when he doesn't even know if it's stroked or not?

Help me with a stroker debate

Typical chevy talk. Our built 302's have been stacking up and surpassing built 350's for a long time now. When we throw a stroker crank in to actually even the playing field and come out way on top, they start crying.

    rear wheel HP ??????

You lose approximately 17% through the drivetrain at the wheels, but dynos will differ. Ratings back in those days were way overrated IMO. 300hp back then was probably more like 200 by todays standards. And yes they rated everything at the flywheel.

    engine build recipe?

That would put you more at 500hp.... hahaha Are you looking for 400hp at the flywheel or at the wheels? My setup is a 347, Trick Flow twisted wedge heads, 10.5:1 compression, 282S comp cams solid flat tappet cam, 1 5/8 long tube headers, edelbrock air-gap performer RPM intake, and it is...

Problems with a stock '85 carb intake on an '87+ longblock

From what I remember, that is normal. There have been posts about this before (if not here, it was from another forum). Just put it together and run it, you won't have any problems. I freaked out when I saw that on mine (I have an 85 carbed) and found it was nothing. Let me go double-check...

    Stroker questions

One piece of advice I can give you is to go with at least a 408 stroker to make it worth it.

    5.0 Question

I'm a little confused, are you saying it is only running on 3 cylinders, numbers 1, 2, and 5? Cause that's not possible.

    85 Carb guys got some?'s

your setup doesn't need a double pumper, I wouldn't get one. Your gas mileage will go down with one.

    comp. ratio for supercharging

10:1 is not an ideal compression ratio for supercharging. How much octane is premium where you live? I don't think even with 93 octane I would run 6psi of boost with 10:1. Your signature says you have 10.5:1. I would put in new low compression pistons for around 8.5:1 and then run 10psi of...

I can not remove the cover of the timing chain

This is the problem, you can see it in the picture. There are 4 bolts that come up through the oil pan into the bottom of the timing cover.

    Sub-frame connectors?

HUGE difference. Any weld in one will do fine.

    85 Carb guys got some?'s

use a holley 600 cfm vacuum secondaries, or an edelbrock 600 with a fuel pressure regulator for no more than 6psi. Whatever is your pleasure

    Engine Temperature

Absolutely wrong. There is not enough flow out of the thermostat to build a bunch of pressure from the thermostat, through the radiator, and back to the pump. That's why the pressure is built in the block. As far as checking the pressure built by the pump only, you can't really measure that...
