    Engine Temperature

Wtf? Why would you hear any pressure at the radiator cap? The pressure is between the pump and the thermostat.... In the block.... w...t....f...

    Smoking out one tailpipe

Not necessarily. If fuel has ever gotten into the oil or the engine has been burning excessive fuel, the oil rings will wear out MUCH faster. From what you've described, it could be either one. I wouldn't buy an engine that smokes unless you planned a complete rebuild. In which case, you...

    Summit long tube header questions

They have slip fit tubes. Likely they will leak, so you'll need some gold/copper RTV to put there. Kind of a pain to install. Ugly as hell. Do they function? Yes. Do I still have mine in there? No.

    Cylinder Heads - too much - 347

I don't think TW heads are undersized for a 347 at all. Yes the cam is the main determining factor when passing emissions when it comes to engine parts. Why get a stage 3 head that flows like a garden hose if you're going to choke it with a stock or similar cam? Just get the regular heads.

    Engine Temperature

You don't need an air tight seal to build any pressure. Just look at piston rings in a bore, there is a gap in all of them, yet they still build a lot of pressure. The impeller is moving fast enough to build pressure even if some is being forced back around it, such as when the thermostat is...

    3.80's for a 8"

2.7 gears with a 5-speed doesn't help anybody's fuel economy in any situation.:notnice: It certainly does not help with going fast either. I would go with the 3.25's. If you had a bigger cam I'd say go with the 3.40's

    Engine Temperature

Yes, that is exactly what I said. Only, the block is between the pump and the thermostat, hence, more pressure in the block. I'm not quite sure what you mean about the pump not being a positive displacement pump and the bypass hose bleeding off pressure.... can you elaborate on that?

another n00b question... carb guys! come in!

Well, your 1 5/8 longtubes definitely aren't choking your setup. Neither is the 670 street avenger. What's the problem you are having with the carb?

    Engine Temperature

It comes from both. If you notice in the article, the pressure in the engine is higher than it is past the thermostat and down to the water pump again. It's simple physics that trying to move a larger volume of water than will flow through a hole fast enough will build pressure.

    Advancing Timing to 18 Degrees

You have to run with 87 down the track to make any real comparison. I don't think anyone would argue that in your setup, at 16 degrees with 91 you would get the best run. Try running 87 at 12 degrees and tell me what happens.

    Engine Temperature

You're absolutely right. Also check out this few paragraphs from an article. This guy knows what he's talking about: Coolant Flow Different coolants require different minimum flow rates, but contrary to popular belief, you cannot make the coolant flow too fast. This rumor was started...

    Advancing Timing to 18 Degrees

You're right, most people here don't have stock compression. The OP does though. So why does he need more octane than I use in my 10.5:1 setup? The point is, you shouldn't be upping timing to the point where you are upping octane to. It doesn't do anything. In fact, you're probably losing...

Stock or higher flow or pressure oil pump

I don't think that article is very good. The sentence in the quote gives it away. How many people have twisted their stock oil pump drive shafts into twizzlers? What the heck does it mean that the additional volume will not create a problem? Sure, it won't create a problem if you are aware...

    Advancing Timing to 18 Degrees

you should really use 87 octane and bring your timing down to around 14. Why are you using 93? These cars were meant for 87.

    Engine Temperature

As long as it doesn't continue past 230 you're fine, if it maintains temp ok anywhere from 210-230, that is fine. You're 160 reading is too low though. At that temp you are burning more fuel and there is more wear going on in the engine. What is your thermostat rating?

Which stroker kit is good for me?

why is it that the PRO STREET kit that handles 800hp is cheaper than the Street Fighter kit that handles 500hp? Did they make a mistake on their site? If the pro street kit is really $1279 I would get that. You don't really need the forged crank that comes with it, but for some reason it...

Stock or higher flow or pressure oil pump

I'm thinking it won't be necessary. The Vortech is a self contained unit that doesn't tap into your oil system right? High volume pumps are for loose (racing) bearing clearances.

    Car isnt running right....

take a couple plugs out and describe what you see. I noticed you have an edelbrock, how much fuel pressure are you running? Do you have a 650 thunder series edelbrock? What is your timing at?

New distributor gear when installing new cam?

Ok, I'll jump in and clear a few things up here. I was also looking at your other thread about a new distributor. First of all, EVERY flat tappet cam is iron, including your new one, and EVERY hydraulic roller cam is steel. Solid rollers are also steel, but billet steel maybe? Some have a...
