    Ignition Problems

As my sig indicates, I have a heavily modified 2001 Mustang GT. After over 2 years of work on the build, I finally got the car running. Unfortunately, I am getting a ton of coil malfunction codes: p0354, p0355, p0356, p0357, and p0358. Needless to say, the car runs like crap, but I thought at...

    Alternator Problems

Turns out it was the wrong alternator. Nice call wmburns!

    Alternator Problems

Sorry it took so long for me to respond; I wasn't able to work on the Mustang all week. I don't think there's any way to access the #2 pin when the harness is plugged into the alternator because the harness-side connector does not have a pin in the #2 slot. It has a recess for the...

    Alternator Problems

The alternator has 3 pins and the harness has a 3-pin connector with pins 1 and 3 occupied and pin 2 empty. What, exactly, should I try jumping? I have the Ford wiring diagram, but electrical systems aren't my strong suit.

    Alternator Problems

I tried jumping from the alternator case to the negative battery terminal, and it didn't change a thing. WMBurns, what did you mean by separate I and S circuits? How can I check to see if my alternator is correct?

    Alternator Problems

I have been throwing away those adapters, as my setup doesn't require them.

    Alternator Problems

I checked the black-orange wire's voltage with the engine running, and it was 12.2, same as battery voltage. I'll try the jumper cable trick when I get home from work today.

    Alternator Problems

How can I tell if the alternator is correct? I got it from Auto Parts International (I assume it's reman).

    Alternator Problems

I've been trying to get the Mustang ready for the dyno, and I've been having persistent alternator / charging system problems. I've gone through three alternators now, and they all had the same problem: they don't seem to be charging the battery even though the idiot light seems to be working...

Turns out everything is okay. Cleaned the water out of the intake manifold, replaced all four o-rings, installed fresh oxygen sensors, and started the car. It runs fine now, and it even moved under its own power today (for the first time in almost 2 years)! So now it's back to waiting for a...

Update: Bad news everybody. I discovered that my intercooler core (inside the intake manifold) has been leaking coolant into the intake manifold (and therefore, into the cylinders). One of the o-rings that seals the tubes carrying coolant through the wall of the intake manifold had an entire...

    Tank_567 Turbo build

Looks great Tank! One word of caution: don't let that blue tape cover the intake ports and coolant passages for too long, as it will become very difficult to remove. Ask me how I know...:nonono:

Nothing yet. I'm still waiting for Jon to send me the modified tune. I emailed him on Wednesday asking if there were any updates, and he said "Yes when I get thru the other 250 emails... Sit tight I will get to it". Jon seems to have become a victim of his own success, as he's so busy he's...

I think it was just dumping a lot of fuel; the smoke went away when the cats lit off (as the third video shows).

I don't know what the target idle speed was set to, but it was idling at about 500 - 550 rpm.

    Mustang New Engine Won't Start

It isn't possible to take pictures of the connector because it's behind the engine on the firewall and there isn't enough slack to pull it up into view. I discovered it by feeling around back there, and it wasn't connected to anything. In case I wasn't clear before, there are two identical...

    Mustang New Engine Won't Start

As it turns out, it was a wiring problem of sorts. Apparently, Ford in its infinite wisdom decided to include two female connectors on the main harness on the firewall that could both accept the square transmission harness connector. I, of course, had it plugged into the wrong one. I only...

Progress Thread Flghtmstr1's 700 Rwhp Build

After almost two years of work, I finally started the car tonight! The initial start-up tune is very rough, but it was close enough to get the car to idle for a while and get a good data log: I'm running open cats because the down pipes don't fit around the transmission (fail on my part) ...
