    speedo correction

Unless there is an aftermarket gear that has a higher tooth count than a stock Ford, the chart is useless. I need about 2 more teeth on the cable gear, but I have the biggest available from Ford (21 tooth). I can change the speed by increasing tire size, as I stated before. I could chang the...

    speedo correction

Okay, here's the situation; I've put a big-block in my cars a few years ago. Speedo is off. Changed the rear end gears, speedo off some more. I had 14" wheels and changed to 15". I have changed the gear on the speedo cable and have the speedo reading about 10 mph fast. Being that I have a...

    Front spring change and alignment?

Also, if you put on new springs you will need to have the car's alignment rechecked in a couple months to accomidate any spring sag that may occur.

Pertronix Ignitor question, and any real benefit to "performance" spark plug wires?

:bang: After dicussing this topic with my co-workers, again. They believe that there is truth in both ideas. I have searched all the manuals I could find, and a little on the internet. All info about ignition coils say that the coil "transformes" battery voltage to "induced voltage" to carry...

does the export brace need to be reinforced?

Do you have a one-piece or two-piece export brace? I had a two-piece for years until I put in my big-block, then I got a heavy-duty one-piece and monte carlo bar from California Mustang. If you're not doing any serious racing, or installing a heavier engine, you shouldn't need to upgrade.

Pertronix Ignitor question, and any real benefit to "performance" spark plug wires?

Okay, I see the problem. After dicussing this with my co-workers (Ford dealership mechanics), we seem to think you are trying to apply AC voltage therories to a DC application. Watts is not a important factor in automotive electrical systems. Back to the example; 1.5 ohms at 12 volts is 8...

Pertronix Ignitor question, and any real benefit to "performance" spark plug wires?

Okay, I suffered from a brain fart. The coil is designed to create its own voltage from the battery, thus being able to greatly increase the voltage to the plugs. The statement blkfrd said "Thers is NOT a lot of current running thru the plug wires" is incorrect. According to Ohm's...

Pertronix Ignitor question, and any real benefit to "performance" spark plug wires?

I hate to point out that blkfrd is backwards. Voltage is like the water in a hose and current is the flow. You cannot increase the voltage to the spark plugs. 12 volts is all the battery produces. Amps(current) increase when you reduce the resistance in the wires. As far as the Ignitor, I...

DON'T BUY GAS ON MAY 19TH!!

All the info is useful and entertaining at the same time. A couple days ago the local news did a piece on the 1 day boycott. They said even if everyone didn't buy gas for 1 day there wouldn't be enough of an impact to get prices to change. The U.S. would have to stop buying gas for about a...

    Wheel Locks

Gorilla locks are probably the best on the market, but they can be easily removed by tapping a 12 pt socket on the lock. I'd say 90% of the time this method will remove the locks. Those of us that work as mechanics have access to tools the general public usually doesn't know about, including...

    Wheel Locks

I wouldn't waste the time or money on wheel locks. If someone wants to steal them bad enough, the locks won't stop them. I worked at a tire shop for 3 years and people with full sets of wheel locks just pissed us off. Expecially when a customer loses the lock. Just my $.02.

    OT: 2005 GT-R Concept

I think the car looks great except for the wing. Does "ricer" come to mind? They need to stick with a spoiler the is contoured to the back instead on a wing. The side exhaust is just so-so. Doen't look bad, but not the best feature. Over all, not bad. :nice:

How much weight is too much for balancing?

3 oz on the inside only isn't too bad. It is about the max you want to have. Being you had all tires balanced on the inside (static balance) you will probably feel a slight vibration at higher speeds. A tire balanced on both sides (dynamic balance) will eliminate high end vibrations. I got...

    Help - engine is 'dieseling'

With my big block I notice it will diesal on regular gas. I run premium just to get rid of this. I have not noticed any other benafits of premium gas. Down side is cost. I also add octane boost in the summer when I go drag racing. Like previouly mentioned, make sure to check carb...

    Alignment Question

Caster is not a tire wear angle. Caster is a stablility angle. Camber is a wear and stability angle. The higher the caster is positive or negative will increase the stability of the car, without eating up your tires. Camber will eat up the edges of the tire when too high or low. Toe will...

    Favorite Mustang Style?

Okay, I have to also say classic. The only thing is the '70 is not considered the "Big Mustang", it is a "Classic" because it is the same body style as the '69.

How could it even run like this? HELP!

Never believe the mark on the wire or the dist. cap. I am notorious for moving the plug wires aroung on the cap to get the right amount of movement from the dist. Being a mechanic, I see this happen occasionally. Most often the wires are mixed up. I've been burned just enough to not trust...

How could it even run like this? HELP!

Okay this may sound stupid, but I have to ask. Are you sure that you are on the #1 plug. I've come across alot of people who have gotten the sides mixed up. Expecially if you own other vehicle that the cylinders are numbered different (chevy). It won't matter what wire you check your timing...

70 upper ball joint grease fitting

Okay, I think you are talking about the upper control arm bushings and not the ball joints. That is where you run into clearance problems. The regular 90 degree fit really tight, and you cannot get a grease gun on them without a needle adapter. The biggest thing is to find extensions to go...

    Which brake pad?

For a daily driver the composite pads are probably the best choice. Composites are the closest to OEM. Some of the newer cars came out with semi-metalics as OE, but most older vehicles were composite. Ceramic is starting to get into "performance" parts. The main thing is what are you looking...
