How much should I shim my T-5's front bearing retainer?

If installing a steel bearing retainer. Make sure the steel tube does not come out of the aluminum retainer. Once bolted on pull on it if it comes out it is no good.

How much should I shim my T-5's front bearing retainer?

You really need a dial indicator to set it correctly. I set them up with no shim. Then I read the endplay on the indicator. Whatever the endplay is that is the thickness of the shim or shims I use. There is no way you can get this by feel. Too tight will burn up the bearings. Too loose will let...

    Strange T-5 bearing retainer failure?

The Summit one I had looked ok. Then I installed it on the tranny. Once on there, I grabbed the snout and the tailshaft to pick the tranny up off of the bench, And it came off in my hand. If you can pull it out by hand I would say it is junk! not enough interfearance fit! You should try to pull...

    Strange T-5 bearing retainer failure?

The Summit one's are JUNK! I had one do it to me right after I put it on the tranny. I ended up drilling and tapping two holes in the bearing retainer 180* apart. and I installed two 1/4"x20 set screws with locktite on them to hold the steel sleeve in the bearing retainer. This is about the...

Any issues with arp head Studs?

You can remove the heads pretty easy with studs. They just slide up and over the studs. This is if you have the 8.2" deck block. I have built many 5.0L Engine's and pretty much they all leaked or weaped around the lower studs. I've tried everything to seal them up over the years. Like liquid...

    Holley Valves Damaged!!

where are the burrs? Are they on the tip or on the keeper grooves. If on the keeper grooves you must run a file across the grooves to remove the burrs. This will help get them out of the guide.Remove burrs and valve will come right out. If the tip is beat up then you have some valvetrain...

    tasca day results ?

I agree with Quazimoto! It is pointless to run a class If your car is not competitive. I ran in the brackets because My car runs consistant. It is not a competitive car. I ended up breaking out on a 12.50 dial- in with a 12.49. In the 1st round. I would have run the N/A heads up street class but...

    Getting DRs before axles.

It will only last for so long. I've broken two stock axles on the driver's side. My car runs 12.50's with a t-5 and 4.30 gears. The 60's were in the 1.70 range. I launch at 4500 r.p.m. on E/T Streets. I finally went to a Detroit locker and 31 splines in the same housing with the same gears...

is a vortec intake any good?

I have one on my daily driver. They used the mid 80's Ford truck lower intake manifold. The Saleen and Vortec were the same thing just different names on them. Back in the day it was one of the best intakes on the market. It was called the shootout intake. It had x-tra injector bosses on the...
