    pull the old speedo gear out take it to the local ford dealer and they will tell you what it is. The speedo gears are color coded.

    Sell the upper and lower intake and go carbed. It'll be way less hassle and cheaper. If not then I would check my fuel pressure, run the codes, it'll help people here help you.

    hatch striker is rusted out

    Cut & weld. I am sure if you find a hatch at a junkyard and tell them you need the area around the striker cut out they would do it. Then find someone who can cut yours out and weld the new one in.

    Heads

    There are no EGR bumps in them, that's why I thought they would be ok. I am also going to mill them to lower the CC's. BTW I currently have stock everything else. If I had a cam to go with some heads I wouldn't bother. I am just looking for something inexpensive over the E7's.

    I have a set of D8OE heads laying around, if I were to P&P those would it be better then my e7's? I would also have them milled as well. I have to strip down my engine and do the new gasket thing so I am looking at putting on these heads.

    Dump the stock block get a CHP or DSS 331, they seem to be great engines. Use what you have left to pick up some chassis parts. Powers great, but useless if all you do is spin your tires off.

    Does anyone know if this new bbk manifold is any good?

    It's supposed to allow for more clearance in the engine bay for getting at valve covers,PCV, ect. It still doesn't compromise hood clearance.

    The 79 302's had low power, if you are thinking about a swap find a block from an 87-93 and do it that way. Or get a 351 and do that instead.

    You need a new speedo gear. Find out which one at 50resto.com depends on if you have an AOD or 5 speed .

    I guess I'm used to my old 87 AOD with stock 2.73's that cruised @ 1700 or so down the hiway. Maybe I am more fuel concerned due to the high gas prices as well :shrug: My car will run better when I get the engine to stop guzzling oil too :D

    I have 3.73's and in fifth on the hiway @ 100KM/H my RPM's sit at 2100. It's real hard on fuel.

    Welcome to the board, there are a lot of people here that are fountains of knowledge. In my research for gears most people recommend 4.10's for auto's, but if you want to maintain good hiway driving I would suggest 3.55's and yes gears are prolly the best seat of your pants mod you can do.
