    PINION DEPTH

I'm not sure what the "standard" pinion depth is. I suppose it would depend on which gears were originally installed. If you want to know the "master housing dimension" (the depth from axle centerline to the back surface of the pinion gear), it's 4.4199".

    Illinois inspection?

Illinois has emissions testing. Cars over a certain age are exempt, but I can't recall how old it'd have to be. Don't worry, if the state wants your car tested, they'll let you know. Many towns in IL (mostly in the Chicago area) require a "village sticker" on cars owned by residents...

    Tips on Window Trim Removal

Get the special tool to remove the trim from around the windshield and rear glass LINKY You can try your local NAPA store or call LRS, they might have them also. If you try to pry the trim off with a screwdriver, you risk damaging the trim pieces, or breaking the clips. To use the...

How do I tell what gears I have?

Rear End Ratio = Tire Height (in.) x 0.0000496 x Engine RPM / Trans. Gear Ratio x 60 / MPH Example: 26.0" x 0.0000496 x 2200rpm / 0.68 x 60 / 70mph = 3.57 (a 3.55 rear end) Of course this would assume that your speedometer is accurate. If your rear gears are not stock, then you speedo...

Mustang Club of Indy show pictures

I topped out at 77 mph on the back stretch, and did 53 through the turns. Could have gone faster, but I wasn't ready to trust my 10 year old tires and my stock brakes to keep me out of the wall (freshly painted for next Saturday's Nationwide race). It is cool just being out there.:D It was...

Mustang Club of Indy show pictures

It's hard to get a good shot with the lights on. The only way is to take a lot of pix in quick succession, and eventually you'll get a good shot with most of the lightbar rotators facing the side towards the camera. Not as many Foxes as last year, IIRC. But it was good to have the Jags...

Very nice!! You got most of my favorites in there. Of course, I'm a little partial when it comes to this one: ;) The 4-eyed coup and the 7-UP vert are amazing cars! Any "action" shots from the track this morning?

    Jeep Speedo Gear? Really?

    A 1990 tranny does change things. # Driven Gear Teeth = 20.168114 / Tire Height (in.) * Axle Ratio * # Drive Gear Teeth 20.186114 / 26.5 * 3.55 * 8 = 21.6 A 21-tooth gear should get you to within a 3% speedometer error (discounting other factors), which is pretty good.

    Jeep Speedo Gear? Really?

Jrichker is right (as usual). You probably need a 19-tooth (pink) or 20-tooth (black) gear for the 3.55s. You're leaving out info. You need to know your tire size, the number of drive gear teeth (we're assuming it's a 7-tooth (yellow) gear in your '88 T-5), in addition to the rear end ratio.

    4.10 gear - spedometer question

Assuming your tire height is between 25.5" and 26", a 23-tooth driven gear will only get you to within an 11 or 12% error. Your T5 probably has a 8-tooth (green) drive gear on the output shaft (you can look through the hole for the speedo cable and check), and the 23-tooth gear won't get you...

    Speedometer question

+1 From what you're saying, I'm going to assume you put the 140mph face on an 85mph speedo. No, there is no speedometer drive/driven gear combination that will get an 85 mph speedometer to work with a 140 mph face. You have to get a new 140 speedo, or put the 85 mph face back on the one...

    Hey coupe guys!

Not sure how much a good used set of interior trunk panels would sell for, but they sure seem to be hard to find. I have heard that reproduction panels are in the works, but it'll be at least a year before the hit the market.

    Gears and gas

Even if you were giving up a 15mpg truck for a $12K econo-box, it would take about 7 years for you to recover the cost of the new car, in gas savings alone. In general, you can expect to see some better city mileage if you go up in gearing. But you can expect to lose just under 1 mpg in...

NEED HELP!!! Need to fill my diff with oil!

Not sure what you mean by the "bottom slump" being filled with oil. If you mean the amount of lubricant that remains in the housing after you remove the housing cover, it can't be more than 4 to 8 oz. (depending on how the car is jacked up). The rear differential should require a total of 2...

    Last night drama! Freakin cops!!!

Doc and I rarely agree, but he's right on this one. Be careful when going through low-speed zones and residential areas. Cops everywhere seem to be targeting those areas more heavily for speed enforcement lately. I wish they'd nail the ditzy soccer moms blasting through my area in their...
