Could I have the wrong flywheel?

I think you're correct horseballz. What may be causing confusion here is that the 157 tooth flywheels are now available with the early 28oz imballance but have the same ring gear placement as a late model '81 up which shares the same starter as the automatic. Why Ford does such goofball things...

4 Hole Carb Spacer on Vic Jr. on 408W Stroker

OK, thanks for the tip. I'll hold off on any carb changes until I can get it to a chassis dyno.

4 Hole Carb Spacer on Vic Jr. on 408W Stroker

There's still just the slightest hesitation if I stab the throttle from idle, but I found the major cause of the problem was a vacuum line had come off the nipple at the manifold. I tweaked the front end alignment, and after fixing the vacuum leak, I should be ready to return it to daily driver...

4 Hole Carb Spacer on Vic Jr. on 408W Stroker

Well it took a while to get the new spacer on and do a test drive. It did make a noticeable difference, but keep in mind the Torker II is a small runner single plane and I've added a plenum divider separating the left and right banks. You may not notice as significant a difference on a Vic Jr...

4 Hole Carb Spacer on Vic Jr. on 408W Stroker

What is acceptable for street manners is rather subjective. My 408 mach 1 is 90% street driven, with an occasional open track event thrown in. I have a Torker II on my 408 and I added a plenum divider to calm it down and make it more responsive at low rpms. I spend a lot of time in traffic...

Are all 351 Windsors created equal?

I'm going to have to disagree with one point here; there is a huge difference between the C9/D1 castings and the later D2 and D4 castings which removed a LOT of iron in the main webbing. The C9OE blocks were used only in 69 and 70 and have the 9.48 nominal deck height. All others have the...

    blown head gasket 351w

One thing yo can do to make it easier is to unbolt the motor mounts and loosen the trans mount. Then you can use a floor jack to put a little lift on the side you're working on to give it a little more room. I just finished doing this on my '69, which granted probably has a little more room to...

    Hagerty Insurance?

I have Heacock. They have several different catagories and allow extensive modifications. I have a stated value of $40K, which I know is a lot, but if it were stolen or totaled in a fire, that's what I would need to replace it. I'm paying about $450/yr and I can drive it anywhere I want. It...

    Looking for 400hp from 351w

400 HP is a LOT of power for an inexperienced driver, and easily achievable with a standard stroke 351W. The stock rods can easily handle it, so there is no need to waste money on over engineering your combo. If the budget allows, retrofit lifters are better than a retrofit cam, as you can...

    Looking for 400hp from 351w

The one thing in your list that would likely prevent you from reaching your goal are the low compression stock pistons. Get a set of flat top Hypereutectic pistons and if the bores in the block still have a decent cross hatch, you won't even have to over bore it to install them. Otherwise you...

1969 mustang, no power at the key

When you first attempted the install, what did you take apart? It's likely that something you changed is the culprit.

I Hope I'm Not The Dumbest Klutz in the U.S.

Every winter I put my car down for some kind of upgrade, and usually that means the engine comes out and/or apart. This year I was in such a hurry to go driving, I forgot to pressure test the coolant system before taking it out for a spin. For whatever stupid reason, I put all the hoses...

    Anyone heard of Evapo-rust?

I have used evapo-rust for years. Works great! It requires that the part be submersed, but it does all the work for you, no need to scrape or brush. It's also safe to drink, although I continue to have regular iced tea.

    3.8/auto swap into 68? Possible?

There were several changes to the heads and head bolts over the years with the 3.8, and by 2000 the worst problem of torque retention seems to have been resolved. Since you already have the complete engine I think it's a great idea. The 3.8 should fit without any problem as it's certainly no...

    V-Belt vs Serpentine Questions???

Either way this is a big project. If you want to keep it EFI, then I'd recommend retaining the serp set up. On the other hand, if you plan to switch to a carb, then change the timing cover to use a mech fuel pump (will also need an eccentric) and plan to buy the correct water pump and pulleys...

Has anyone had their early block machined to take a one piece seal?

I did... I'm almost ashamed to admit it. A huge waste of money! The 2 piece neoprene works just fine. My first one piece seal only lasted one day of driving. I had to pull the engine back out and took it back to the machine shop. They replaced it for "free" but the cost in removing and...

    help: flywheel/clutch

You have some significant hot spots on both the flywheel and pressure plate. I agree you should replace everything. Most likely it was not adjusted properly and was slipping much of the time. If it wasn't due to improper adjustment, then it's because you're riding the clutch.

    Upgrades on fastback 67

    1. In general, if you get a car from southern california, arizona, nevada, new mexico or west texas, it will have little or no rust. Some rust in the door corners, around the back lite glass, and the rocker panels is normal even in dry climates. A well cared for car in those areas may have...

    Is this re-pop madness or?

My repop 69 rear valance fits just as poorly. I could only get three of the original holes to line up to attach it, although I can slide it left and right enough so that I can get a variety of 3 holes to line up.

    Header Shrouding On 351W

Blend the flange as much as you can without risking breaking through a tube, and don't worry about it. You'll have plenty of power from your Windsor.
